Arnau Amatista is the new musical project from the Barcelonian Arnau Montserrat. Armed with a degree in audiovisual engineering, he moved to Berlin to connect and share projects with artists from the city and discover new sounds and musical experiences.  There, he met the Love Foundation collective, where he has since become a member and resident at their parties.

In 2014, together with his partner David Calvo, they start the electronic music duo Apocapoc performing in Berlin and Barcelona clubs such as Mensch Meier, Barts or Rosi's. Since 2015 he creates musical productions for performance and artistic installations, presented in spaces such as Sónar Festival or the historical Volksbühne in Berlin. 

The music
Fascinated by the tribal and psychedelic sounds of the 70s, Arnau Amatista mixes the 21st century Latin America and Oriental down tempo groove with the energy of the digital instruments characteristic of the Berlin Tech House. This fusion will transport you on a trip where happiness and energy are constantly present, focusing only on the now.

Mit der Nummer 98 meiner kleinen Serie sind wir mal wieder in Berlin zu Gast … ja und tatsächlich ist Sarah Wild auch wirklich in Berlin geboren … es gibt sie wirklich die echten Berliner ;-)

Sarah war quasi schon immer von Musik umgeben … aufgewachsen in einer Musiker-Familie hat sie mehrere Instrumente gelernt. Unter anderem Piano und Saxophon welches sie auch ganz gerne mal in ihre Performance integriert. 2017 startete Sarah dann ihr eigenes Projekt Sarah Wild … was ich übrigens einen super passenden Namen finde. Ruck-Zuck hat sie sich in die Herzen der Berliner Floors gespielt … ob Mensch Meier, Kater Blau, Sisyphos oder unsere geliebte Bucht … Sarah wird überall gern gehört … aber auch außerhalb von Berlin ist die Reisende anzutreffen … Brüssel, Hamburg, Frankfurt oder Amsterdam. 

Musikalisch bewegt sich Sarah Wild normal doch eher so zwischen Space Disco, Deep House, Disco und Tech House. Wie wir den Termin für diesen Podcast ausgemacht haben, meinte ich so zu ihr mach doch mal was technoideres … könnte ich mir gut vorstellen. Erst war Sarah nicht so ganz begeistert hat dann aber die Herausforderung doch angenommen und war am Ende von der Aufgabe sehr begeistert. Dabei herausgekommen ist nun ein verträumtes, technoides Set mit sehr sehr viel „space between“ - irgendwie ruhig und doch treibend – alles aus beiden Welten.

Sarah tausend Dank für diesen echt super spannenden Podcast … ich bin mehr als begeistert. Und meine lieben Hörer wünsch ich nun eine tolle Reise zwischen den Welten.

The weather was so unique that it changed our perception of the festival grounds... It was like we got transported to another dimension, another world, another reality... And wow, what a reality that was... The colors were brighter, sounds got crisper and the love rooted deep in our heart and minds... 🗯🗯 Wie hat Corona dein Künstlerleben verändert? 🗯🗯

Grundlegend. Seit fast einem Jahr gibt es so gut wie gar keine Möglichkeiten mehr vor Publikum aufzulegen und wenn, wie im Spätsommer oder Herbst, dann unter komplett anderen, strengen Bedingungen. Andererseits haben wir alle die Zeit genutzt, um noch mehr Musik zu diggen und Mixtapes aufzunehmen oder Stream-Sets zu spielen. Das ersetzt einen Gig vor Publikum zwar nicht annähernd, aber man kann es auch als Inventur der bisher geleisteten Arbeit als DJ und Selector*in begreifen.

🗯🗯 Wo habt ihr diesen Mix aufgenommen? 🗯🗯

Wir haben von zuhause und zu dritt am Tape gearbeitet und die Arbeit ein bisschen aufgeteilt. Zola und Buzz Boris haben das Konzept aufgestellt und die Selektion übernommen, was bei der speziellen Ausrichtung des Tapes Richtung subkultureller NDW-Sounds ziemlich aufregend war. Marinelli hat auch noch ein paar Tracks mit reingeworfen, aber vor allem aufgenommen, Schräubchen gedreht und das Mastering übernommen. Im Chat haben wir dann die Feinheiten diskutiert und uns gegenseitig Feedback gegeben. Das hat irre viel Spaß gemacht und hat auch auf die Distanz wirklich erstaunlich gut funktioniert. Wir denken sogar schon über ein Follow-Up Mixtape nach.

🗯🗯 Was wünschst du dir für die Zeit nach oder mit Corona? 🗯🗯

Gesamtgesellschaftlich wünschen wir uns Nachsicht, Solidarität und Zusammenhalt untereinander. Aber natürlich auch eine Perspektive für die ziemlich allein gelassenen Künstlerinnen und Künstler. Wir haben alle noch andere Jobs bzw. eine Absicherung, viele unsere Freundinnen und Freunde nicht. Für die Zeit nach Corona wünschen wir uns, dass wir uns wieder ausgelassen und gemeinsam an fantastischer Musik erfreuen können. Und weniger Bildschirme!
