Und schon sind wir wieder Back in Hamburg. Spontan hab ich mal wieder ein Set beigesteuert bekommen. Ryan hat hier ja schon eins gemacht … im Slowmodus Gewand. Meinte aber das er mit seinem Buddy A.B.U gerade immer mit sehr viel Freude so b2b Studiosession macht. Bisschen flotter und housiger das ganze … is ja eh total mein Ding. Genau der Sound is ja so meine Lieblingsmusik bei Afterhours … schön gemütlich mit dem Arsch wackeln und Unsinn labern mit einem Kaltgetränk in der Hand … bow wie ich das vermisse. So 3 Tage noch dann dürfen die Clubs wieder aufmachen. Mal schauen ob ich am Freitag direkt wieder irgendwo auf dem Floor lande … kann es mir nach über 2 Jahren noch gar nicht so richtig vorstellen. Aber ich denke das ist wie Fahrradfahren. 

So von Hamburg geht es direkt wieder rüber nach Berlin zu meinen Freunden von ELIXIR. Freu ich mich ganz besonders das dieser Podcast nach ein paar Anläufen noch geklappt hat. War auch für Beide sehr spannend da sie nicht mehr in einer Stadt wohnen. Die Aufnahme des Podcast ist über Remonte Producing (Videocalls, Screenshare und Co.) entstanden … was wohl sehr spannend war, aber trotzdem voll Bock gemacht hat. 

Das Projekt ELIXIR bestehend aus Lexy und Lisa ist noch gar nicht alt … hat mich aber vom ersten Set in den Bann gezogen. Es gibt so b2b die einfach ganz toll harmonieren und das ist bei diesem Duo auf jeden Fall gegeben. So geht der Mix erst mal schön slow und deep los und steigert sich in gute Club-Laune. Was ja gut passt … raus aus dem düsterem Februar … rein in den warmen Club. Merci Lexy und Lisa für euren tollen Beitrag und das sehr amüsante Cover.

Heute hab ich den lieben Vale on board. Wir haben uns auf dem 3000grad Virtual-Festival intensiv kennengelernt – war zwar keine Party aber trotzdem ein ganz intensives Erlebnis.

Erst vor ein paar Monaten hab ich auch entdeckt das der Gute auch als DJ unterwegs ist. Sein erstes Set das er zusammen mit der liebe Nixe aufgenommen hat … hat mich auch direkt geflasht. Vale hat auch direkt angefragt ob er ein Teil von den Corona-Swimmers werden kann … na aber sicher doch. Eigentlich wollte Hans Fährmann etwas ruhigeres für meine Reihe machen … aber dann hinterm Pult wurde es doch flotter wie gedacht. Aber find ich gut … seit heute geht’s ja wieder los mit dem TANZEN. YEAH 💥💥💥

Eigentlich sollte die Reihe ja schon wieder beendet sein … weil ja Lock-Down. Aber ich hab beschlossen die zugesagten Podcast noch fertig zu machen … wäre ja schade drum. 

Deswegen heute wieder Back in Berlin mit ordentlich Wumms. Mehr is Mehr verfolge ich von der ersten Stunde und bin immer wieder von der unglaublichen Energie die die Beiden an den Tag legen MEHR als begeistert. So liebe Hörer und Freunde der elektronischen Musik … dies ist der letzte Mix aus meiner „We Are At Home“ Reihe. Vor genau 2 Jahren habe ich mit Judith von Waterkant diese Reihe gestartet. Wer hätte gedacht das uns dieser Virus so lange begleitet … und leider is er auch noch nicht vorbei. Aber wir haben keinen Lockdown mehr und der Großteil der Beschränkungen ist seit heute auch aufgehoben … deswegen ist es heute ein guter Tag die Reihe einzustellen. 

Ich befand mich ja eigentlich im Ruhestand seit Januar 2020 … damals hab ich meine sound(ge)cloud Reihe eingestellt. Naja nun hab ich nochmal 85 Podcast in 2 Jahren Pandemie veröffentlicht und auf FB meine Hörer fleißig mit Sets und guter Musik versorgt. Was soll ich sagen ich bin ganz schön gesättigt von der elektronischen Musik und mach jetzt erst mal wieder eine längere Pause. Aber sag niemals nie … vielleicht hab ich ja irgendwann mal wieder Bock was zu machen.

Over Christmas 2014 I needed a break from recording
my album, searching online for a song I recalled from
my youth, I fell into a rabbit hole of thousands of
YouTube playlists and posts, rediscovering the songs
my friends and I would gather and listen to as
13 & 14 yr olds every Saturday in East Berlin on Radio DT64
(now Berlin's Radio Fritz).

I stumbled back to the future, collecting over 5000 songs
on YouTube, learning for the first time the artists behind
the songs we heard almost 25 years ago.

The forthcoming trilogy is the result of 18 month
of building edits from YouTube recordings and stitching
them together off-line. I could not include every song,
nor indeed even the entire tracks from this small period
until 1993, so this is my personal history of electronic
music arriving in Berlin.

This trilogy will not be sold, it was a labor of love,
born of nostalgia and made for sharing.

While most will remember him from one of the countless performances with his well known side projects, only few will be able to recall one of Okaxy's (@ninzeokaxy) rare solo performances. While pulling the strings behind two of Germany's highest-rated and most groundbreaking musical novelties, there was indeed little time remaining to take care of his very own career. Yet, the ones who witnessed an Okaxy show can attest it's irrestible, drawing power on the crowd. We feel very sunshiny about the fact, that despite his plural responsibilities he still had the capacity to provide this current snapshot of his taste in music. It's time now to lean back and revel in this sonic goodliness..

Mein heutiger Podcast kommt vom jungen Talent Guzy aus Marburg, aber auch in Berlin ist er oft anzutreffen. Das DJing hat David mit HipHop und Funk angefangen, unter dem Namen Guusbert. Musikalisch beeinflusst durch seinen Freund Jonas Saalbach hat er sich aber schnell den elektronischen Tönen zugewandt. Über die letzten Jahre hat er seinen Sound stätig verändert und angepasst, ist aber dem deepen und progressiven House doch immer treu geblieben. Aber auch die ersten Schritte als Produzent sind bereits gegangen. Zusammen mit Foreign Guest hat er an der EP „Morva“ für Underyourskin Records gearbeitet. 

Als DJ ist Guzy auch schon ganz schön rum gekommen. Neben diversen Gigs in Hamburg und Berlin sind auch so exotische Orte wie Beirut dabei. Bei Kemistrybookings aus Beirut hat er auch eine Heimat gefunden.

Wir sind uns irgendwann in der Wolke über den Weg gelaufen und haben uns gleich sofort super verstanden. Es gibt so Begegnungen wo man so hin und her schreibt und dabei das Gefühl hat man würde sich schon ewig kennen.  Sein Sound trifft ziemlich gut meinen momentanen Musikgeschmack in Richtung deepen und verspielten House. 

Vielen Dank David für diese tragische Leichtigkeit in deinem Set – passt perfekt. Und nun wünsch ich meinen Hörern viel Freude Guzys „tragical lightness“.

Die Himmelswiese in Mitten eines herzförmigen fränkischen Waldes war auch 2017 wieder Austragungsort des kleines aber sehr feinen „von Freunden für Freunde“ Festivals. 3 Tage Musik, Liebe und Freude für Groß und Klein. 

Als Highlight für den Samstagabend hatten wir den Ausnahmekünstler LUBØMIR aus der Nähe von Zürich zu Gast. Entdeckt haben wir Randolphs Musik wie soll es anderes sein beim Surfen durch die orangene Wolke und es war uns sofort klar … hier haben wir eine Perle entdeckt. Ohne Computer, seinem analogen Setup und seinen schriftlichen Notizen seiner Tracks, spielt er sein Set zu 100% LIVE --- eben live raw and uncut. Für jeden seiner Live-Auftritte nimmt sich Randolph mehrere Monate Zeit zum Üben und Entwickeln um speziell für den Event ein einzigartiges Set zu kreieren. Mehr Hingabe zur Musik geht nicht.

Wir haben sein Set mit zwei Recordern mitgeschnitten und Randolph hat sein Set mit der Atmo zu einem grandiosen Gesamtwerk zusammengeführt. Randolph es war uns eine riesige Freude dich und deine Musik auf unserem wunderbaren kleinen Festival zu haben. Von Experten für Experten ;-)

Mit Franca’s „Reise durchs Regal“ präsentiere ich euch heute eine meiner absoluten Lieblingskünstlerinnen. Entdeckt habe ich Franca erst vor ca. 1 Jahr ... doch seitdem sind ihre Sets nicht mehr aus meinem Alltag wegzudenken. Besonders hervorzuheben sei hier das Fusion Tanzwüsten Set von 2016 und natürlich Kater Blau - Heinz Hopper Floor … was eine stimmungsvolle Reise.

Es war der Schulbusfahrer, der Franca mit elektronischer Musik anfixte – guter Mann. Das war 1996. 10 Jahre und einige Plattenkäufe später zog es die Münchenerin nach Köln, wo sie fester Bestandteil des Feines Tier-Rudels und WIR Schwestern-Kollektivs wurde. Wer die Dame einmal hinter den Reglern erleben durfte, spürt sofort, warum sie sich immer wieder die uneingeschränkte Aufmerksamkeit ihres Publikums erspielt: Sie ist der Crowd stets drei Platten voraus und legt House- und Technotunes in einer Mischung auf, welche ihresgleichen sucht. Franca ist ein begehrter Gast, aber kein bedrängter Star.

Aber auch als Producerin hat sich Franca schon einen Namen gemacht. Ihre erste Solo-EP „Epiphany“ auf meinem Lieblings-Label URSL hat gleich eingeschlagen wie eine Bombe. Auch hier wird wohl noch mehr zu hören sein … hoffentlich. 

Für sound(ge)cloud wollte Franca mal was anderes machen. Musik die auch auf dem Sofa funktioniert und das ist ihr mehr als gelungen. Seit einer Woche wohnt Franca nun im Amsterdam und beim Ausräumen ihres Platten-Regal kam ihr die Idee für den Mix … eine Reise durchs Regal zu machen. So entstand ein Mix aus alten und neuen Lieblingen und Fundstücken die eben in so einem Regal schlummern … entspannt, funky und doch mitreisend. Franca tausend Dank für diese unwiderstehliche Reise.

Heute präsentiere ich euch eine wunderbare entspanntes Set von dem grandiosen Unterhaltungskünstler „I am Harald“ aus Hannover. Seinem Sound verfolge ich auf Empfehlung meines geschätzen Afterhour Kollegen Martin schon seit längerer Zeit. Und letztens auf einer Party in Hildesheim haben wir uns nun auch persönlich getroffen … was soll ich sagen wir haben uns prächtig amüsiert.

Den Termin für den Podcast hatten wir schon seit langer Zeit ausgemacht und Harald wollte mir was ganz besonderes basteln. Nun haben wir uns aber entschlossen diese wunderbare mitgeschnittene Afterhour einer ganz besonderen Party in Italien zu veröffentlichen. Borgo D'Ale liegt zu Füssen der italienischen Alpen und war Austragungsort einer anscheinend sehr gemütlichen kleinen Family-Party … aber wir wollen hier gar nicht so viel erzählen … ich glaube die Musik spricht für sich.

Harald viele Dank für diese wunderbare Stunde und nun wünsch ich allen Hörern eine traumhafte Reise in den Süden.

Heute mach ich mal ein kleines Special für unsere Freunde von Something Slow aus Berlin. Das Projekt hat sich voll und ganz der langsamen elektronischen Musik verschrieben. Neben ihrem Hawaii Projekt als Isle9 haben sie in meinem Berliner Wohnzimmer-Lieblingsclub Beate Uwe die Something Slow Sonntags-Reihe ins Leben gerufen, die nun aber in die Höhen des Klunkerkranich gezogen ist. Mit einem besonderen Händchen für tolle Musiker wird hier Sonntags ins einer extrem entspannten Runde geschwooft, geplaudert, gekuschelt und den slowen Tönen gelauscht. Neben den schönen Events entsteht hier aber auch ein großes Kollektiv an Musikern die hier ihr Heimat gefunden haben. Ein großer Dank geht hier an Julia die ein ganz wunderbares Händchen für Talente hat … ich finde hier immer wieder Künstler die ich sonst nicht so schnell entdeckt hätte. Danke Julia für deinen Einsatz und die Liebe zur elektronischen Musik.

Mit diesem Set präsentiere ich nun auch einen Künstler aus meiner fränkischen Heimat den es wie so viele andere nach Berlin verschlagen hat. Und das ganze natürlich Live auf Something Slow.

Zu seinem Namen kam HOVER durch Zufall. Aber das war es auch schon. Denn was der Berliner DJ Nacht für Nacht an den Decks tut, hat mit Zufall rein gar nichts zu tun. Er kennt sich aus mit Musik. Er spielt vier Instrumente. Das merkt man. Noch besser kennt er sich aber damit aus, wie man aus Musik Körperbewegungen macht. Und das wiederum, merkt das Publikum. 

Irgendwo zwischen Tech-House, House und Disco findet HOVER genau den Punkt, der bei allen Menschen gute Laune auslöst. Mit diesem Sound hat er sich unter anderem in den Timetables renommierter Berliner Clubs, wie dem Sisyphos, dem Kater Blau und dem KitKat festgespielt. Garantiert kein Zufall. 

Für mich geht er mit den bpm ein gutes Viertel herunter, um auch dem langsamen Teil seines Repertoires Gehör zu verschaffen. Nico vielen Dank für das wunderbar abwechslungsreiche Set mit einer grandiosen Stimmung. Und nun wünsch ich euch viel Freude mit Something Slow.

He was very encouraging and supportive of my Journey through Ambient Dub Techno mix series, particularly part 7, and I was happy to make this mix for him. Part 7 featured the heavier, dubbier sounds of dub techno. Björn asked if I could make a mix for his channel similar to that. The rawer and grittier, the better. I dug into my collection for as many dubby tracks I could find. This mix starts gentle and progressively gets grittier and dubbier to the very end. Enjoy my friends!

🗯🗯 How Did Corona change your artist life? 🗯🗯

Obviously, similar to all my fellow artist friends or event industries colleagues, this summer went quite different than we all originally planned. That long break was quite difficult for me personally, as I was used to a fast and busy life before the lockdown came. But also, it forced me to reflect, to connect in new ways with the people and culture around me and establish new networks through the internet. Musically, it brought to me many new gems, as I had time to dig even deeper than before and I finally found the time to start my own radio show, a dream I had for ages now. (Shoutout to Bandcamp: bandcamp friday was and is such a great invention in these times without a proper week structure and to support artists financially !) With more time on my hands, I was reading a lot about music culture and racist power structures and found some time to reflect on my own attitude towards the music that I am playing, as it is heavily inspired by music that is rooted in Black and queer communities, like Hip Hop and House. I feel that this pandemic made everything more visible, the good things and the bad things. The situation we as DJs, promoters, venues, artists and technicians  are facing right now seems very scary and I think we all nearly lost hope in some moments. This is why projects like United We Stream and United We Talk are not only precious because of the important content and message they broadcast to a big international audience but also because the music and club culture community was able to stand in solidarity with each other as well as with people that were even more affected by the crisis during this pandemic.

🗯🗯 Where did you record the mix and how did you feel? 🗯🗯

I recorded it in my second home: the main floor at Mensch Meier in Berlin. It was such a good experience, feeling the bass in my body and the music played on a proper sound system again after months of listening to the tunes in my apartment (with neighbours and flatmates). I wanted to record a mix that is representing my style of bass music I play in clubs and festivals usually, which means that this music is made to dance to, best case scenario: with a group of friends who are singing along some to basslines that they might recognize as it was sampled from a hip hop classic, while shaking their booties off. Playing this mix without this energy on an empty dancefloor was surely one of the strangest DJ experiences I had so far (closely followed by that one special dude on a festival last year who had this strong urge to explain to me how to use the crossfaders in the middle of my set, thanks for that again ;) ).

🗯🗯 What are your wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

More solidarity. Caring for each other within our communities and caring for people who are made invisible in our society because they are living in camps on the European borders like Moria. More reflections on the power dynamics that also shape our beloved dancefloors. More actions to change these toxic systems like racism and sexism. And of course, good music to accompany this upcoming world peace. Thanks!

Unsere nächste Lockdown-Gästin @MonaMoore kommt ursprünglich aus München, hat es aber nach Berlin geschafft und hier nun vor 7 Jahren ihre neue Heimat gefunden. Das freut uns natürlich, da wir sie somit hier hinter den Decks und auf dem Floor treffen können. Seit nun mehr 20 Jahren ist Mona passionierte Liebhaberin der Elektronischen Musik, so musste es ja früher oder später dazu kommen, dass sie sich auch mal hinter den Mixer wagt. Ihr Debut an den Decks feierte sie 2018 in "ihrem Wohnzimmer" wie sie den Kater Blau nennt. Auch außerhalb von Berlin hat Mona Moore schon die Floors mit ihrem deepen, groovigen Techno zum kochen gebracht. Im Interview spricht sie von ihren ersten Erfahrungen als DJ, von Empathie und darüber, dass Diversität übers Booking hinaus gehen sollte.

Heute reisen wir ins schöne Leipzig … auch wieder zu einem Künstler der mir vorher überhaupt nix sagte … aber auch hier wurde mir wieder ein wunderbares Set offeriert und komischer weiße schon wieder in Vinyl … is gerade wieder mal Vinyl-Retro-Time? Toben meinte dazu:

„Vielleicht bekommst du ja jetzt so viele Vinyl-Sets, weil die ganzen Platten-DJs mal wieder Zeit haben ihre Technik auf Vordermann zu bringen ... so ging es mir jedenfalls. Ich hab mal die Zeit zum Beispiel mal genutzt um meinen Plattenspieler zu löten, dass der nicht mehr schnarrt. Und die ganze Knete die ich sonst an der Bar gelassen hätte, hab ich nun für neue Platten ausgegeben. Das kommt bei mir leider viel zu selten vor, da ich meistens chronisch pleite bin haha“

Na dann liebe Vinyl DJs wisst ihr Bescheid … Set aufnehmen und rüberschicken … haha … Danke Toben … ich bin sehr begeistert von dem spontanen Set … genau mein Ding.
