Originally released on Volume and Tension in 1994, the 'Duster' EP was one of only two releases Toby Warren completed under the Hi Tech Criminal moniker, it has since gone on to become a rare gem of a record that swaps hands for princely sums. Klasse Wrecks is very pleased to announce the re-issue of the original tracks on vinyl and digital and happy to announce an exclusive-never-heard-before mix of the title track. The 4 tracker harks back to a period in time when creativity and originality was at an all time high in dance music. The tracks on the 'Duster' EP defy categorization, part bouncing House, part progressive and driving Techno...all good.

Mr Ho and Luca Lozano’s label Klasse Wrecks has been a long-time staple for that meeting point of classic 90s rave, hardcore and techno with today’s genre-blending tastes and production values. Part of their appeal comes from the magpie-like A&R that sees hot new and upcoming names rub shoulders with people who were there the first time round. Hi-Tech Criminal is one of the latter, having put out just a couple of EPs in the mid 90s that over time have become highly prized finds. Klasse Wrecks are now reissuing the Duster EP with a bonus unheard version of the title track, but it’s the dynamic, Chicago-indebted squiggle of ‘Light Bulb’ that makes our Selections, bringing back fond memories of when it was played out. Its alluring vibe and out-of-the-box sound design steams up any dancefloor.

They hit the UK Top 5 in 1979 with a deadpan, deconstructed and desexualised – some say deliberately detuned – version of Barrett Strong’s ‘Money’, and then repeated the trick several more times, to less fanfare. Some argue that they took the notion of WRONG! in pop music to a higher level, elevated it to an art form. So asexual it became a whole new strata of sex in itself. 

Cue the present-day and sunny St. Leonards-On-Sea from the UK (a place that Morrissey’s ‘Everyday is Like Sunday’ could have been written for). Cue Elf & Stacy, a small town ‘musical’ duo, delighting in all the qualities that made The Flying Lizards so artful in the first place: a disco backbeat, abrupt vocals and a certain… how should we put this?... atonality.
