This walk is a pause.
This pause is a walk.

This Walk is a Pause is a poetic sound piece in which the narrator invites the listener to walk along with her through both actual and mental landscapes -  Finnish pine forests, fields of exhaustion, tingling brain gums, the neighborhood, experiences of disorientation and comforting darkness - eventually arriving in a surrounding where walking offers a form of pausing.

​Exploring walking as a pausing practice, this piece asks which potential space might open if one steps aside from given pathways for a shorter or longer while: If pausing would be what you most need, what would you need it to be?

As a teenager living on the outskirts of Munich studying classical guitar, Timur Tokdemir—aka Mechatok—began to explore club culture on his trips to Berlin, which ultimately led him down to a different path. Relocating to Berlin in 2016, he debuted his first EP, “See Thru”, launching his presence in the international electronic scene. Early collaborations with Yung Lean and Palmistry built a catalog of euphoric, minimal pop. By 21, he had toured globally and refined his style with 2018's “All My Time” on Lorenzo Senni’s Presto!? label, blending bright synths with subtle percussion to explore dancehall and global pop. He continued evolving through collaborations with Bladee and Ecco2K, game soundtracks like 2020's “Defective Holiday”, and a 2021 joint album and remix project with Bladee featuring Charli XCX and Evian Christ. In 2022, Tokdemir founded Natural Mind, a series of club events 
and a brand.
Munich-born and of Turkish-Tunisian descent, Mechatok’s work for Black Med delves into new perspectives on cultural belonging and spatial orientation. Rather than a singular attachment to one place, it redefines belonging as a web of connections to multiple locations. This multifaceted, sometimes contradictory sense of direction evokes both freedom and a sustained disorientation. Dispersed memories coalesce into an internal patchwork—an imaginary, hybrid realm that helps navigate an amorphous reality. Through the author’s work as a touring musician and collaborative practices in rap and electronic production, this realm takes on new sonic and social expressions. 
This sound piece was presented in 2023 at Oude Kerk in Amsterdam as a multichannel sound installation.

Marouchka is a youtube gatherer who loves fiding and sharing the lost post punk, new wave and electro wonders, mixed with some teenage melancholy and industrial brutality. She tries to highlight the roles that Womxn  play and have played in historically white cis-male dominated environnement such as the punk, post punk and industrial scene, where they often ended up invisibilized or considerated as less important.
