I dug this one up from 2011. A little piece I wrote for a New York radio show contest, which made it to Finalist. The contest asked us to use samples from the New York MTA Subway, so in addition to the announcer, ticket gate beeps, and rail noises, I took a melody I heard as the train moved away and turned it into a string motif. 

Incidentally, I threw this together right after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, just hours before I left Japan for a couple weeks. It was a little bit of peace in the middle of a lot of chaos and devastation. 

I'm reminded now that time limits and imperfection can be very good things. I am a perfectionist by nature, stubborn to the last minute with every aspect of music making... but this was a rare exercise in putting something together and releasing it pronto, as is. A million other songs wait inside my laptop for the finishing touches... so here's to that extra push sometimes needed to get those creations released.
