It’s all about the music first and foremost. Play what excites you and remember everyone has their own journey - patience is key.

About the mix:
I recorded this mix on a beautiful spring afternoon, which at the moment is rare for London as we’ve been deprived of any sun recently! I roughly sketched it out and then pressed play on the first track, beginning the recording as the sun was setting and by the time i finished it was dark outside. I was fully in my own world when recording this and it felt good to take things a bit deeper and have those emotional moments, with tracks such as Roman Flugal’s Lucy, which for me is such a beautiful song and Hollis P Monroe’s ‘I’m Lonely’ which is one of my all time favourite tracks. The mix is a real groover with some trippy moments, it ramps up, but never fully smashes through the front door.

This has probably been my record of the year so far. It’s an old record from ‘97 and something that I’ve had in my collection for a long time but it came back into my life at the start of the year when I was looking for some deeper, groovier stuff to play at a gig I was playing. I played it that night and it created such a vibe that I’ve been playing it regularly since then. When I played it at Panorama Bar earlier this year it was a real stand-out moment. I think with the tendency for everyone to play faster and harder music right now this record really stands out with its loose Latin groove and soulful vocals.'

On May 25th 2024, to accompany the launch of his Arthur Russell book "Travels Over Feeling" Richard King put together an event at London's Barbican celebrating Arthur's life with an all star musical cast recreating and reimagining his music.

I was thrilled to be invited to play a DJ set in the foyer afterwards. I have been an Arthur Russell devotee for 30 years and decided to play an all Arthur Russell DJ set*. The atmosphere was very special with lots of love transmitting back and forth from the DJ booth to the dancefloor. I really felt a freedom to slowly build it up playing so many of my favourite AR tracks and it was one of my very favourite DJ gis of 2024 so far.


*Full disclosure - there was an additional 30 minutes finale of this set that didn't record where I played non Arthur Russell, disco / disco adjacent records.

Sundays are the days I miss Bibi the most. We used to spend our time on the couch, listening to music, watching TV, and most of all, napping together. Not sure if she actually listened and watched but hey, It sure felt like it.  It feels strange not having her around anymore after a decade of being so used to her furry presence. I still find myself not leaving plates out in the open, and I still expect her to run toward me when I come home. So, I decided to create a tribute show for her—songs that remind me of her companionship and the time we shared. Private Hearts 155: A tribute to the best cat ever! <3
