The subway car rocked through the tunnel, nearly midnight on All Hallows’ Eve. Lauren looked up—empty, except for a figure at the far end.  She hadn’t seen anyone get on.  It began walking toward her. Slow. Silent.  Then the lights flickered.  When they came back on, it was closer.  Too close.  And now… it wasn't walking.  It was crawling.  And it wasn’t breathing.  But something behind her was.

The Last Stop

“Stay here,” Jamie said, pressing the locket into Ella’s hand. “I’ll come back for you. I promise.” She nodded. “I’ll wait.” He left. Seasons turned. The road stayed empty. Years later, a traveler passed. “Are you waiting for someone?” they asked. Ella smiled, hopeful. “Jamie.” The traveler paused. “There’s no one by that name in these parts.” Ella’s smile faded. She looked down the road. Had he forgotten? Or had something else found him first?

The Name That Fades

As a child, I loved the folklore plays in the Enchanted Gardens. Grandma and I would sit front row, watching heroes slay the dragon that returned every century. The villagers cheered, and I dreamed of being in the story—never the story.

Now, years later, I stand in the heart of the ruined temple, where time clings to stone and silence.

A wall of prophecy towers before me.

And there, carved into the ancient rock—weathered but unmistakable—is my face.

But this wall is over 500 years old.
