With Ellen Allien’s latest album ‘Alientronic’ in full flight, in comes the first batch of remixes. For Rmxs 1, we have Terence Fixmer, Introversion and Regal; friends and comrades who are all supremely talented. Three artists, three fresh remixes... and a special edit, too!
We begin with two remixes of ‘Love Distortion’. First up is Terence Fixmer, the Frenchman with the Midas Touch. On his rework we get extra bold percussion that slams down with purpose as a gnarly guitar-esque riff rocks it out. It’s dark, twisted and seductive - techno heavy metal made to destroy dancefloors.
Next up is Introversion’s take. The rhythm gallops along with heavyweight beats and kicks. This track’s overall feel is murky until a trancey breakdown introduces a hypnotic motif and takes us into the main body of the track. Strap yourself in as this one is sure to take you away to another dimension.
The third remix in this package comes from BPitch Control regular Regal. His ‘XTC Remix’ of ‘Electronic Joy’ injects a ravey energy to the original. The percussion is high octane, pumping and utterly contagious, while the main riff has an enchanting retro feel. Get ready for the big breakdown...
Last up it’s ‘Love Distortion (Edit1)’, a special edit of the mesmerising cut. A sombre intro leads into this restrained track that utilises its power in a considered manner. There’s a tough kick drum, which works in tandem with the undulating low end to get your body moving - but the overall atmosphere is relatively melancholy and muted.

Wailing Memory

Manchester-born, Berlin-based producer Setaoc Mass returns to his own SK_Eleven imprint with his third outing on the Cycles EP. Here we see the artist’s propulsive brand of techno take on an extra dynamic, starting with the muscular, mind-warping drive of ‘Cyber’ taking control, ‘Kunfus’ reverts back to a highly purified, galvanising techno groove, coalescing crisp percussion and a perpetual stomp to devastating effect, whilst turning over the sci-fi indebted 'Structured Deceit’ adds to the strong release with its mesmerising melodies and ceaseless energy. Finished of by the more downbeat, reverb-drenched, insulated mindset of ‘Escape From You’.

‘Alientronic’ was recorded during the cold winter months in Berlin at the end of 2018, a time when creativity hits a peak in the city. Sub-zero temperatures and dark nights keep the artists locked away indoors, nding time and space to jour- ney inwards and tap into the deepest recesses of their creative energy.

The album represents an artist who is brimming with ideas, years of experience breathe life into Ellen’s work - it’s refined, yet liberated, informed by the past but very much looking to the future. Ellen disseminates classic techno and acid tropes through her visionary lens, vocals are looped and warped, tough beats slam down as stirring pads coax us into an emotive realm and we’re privy to a spellbinding other world full of mysterious exotic allure.

@miles_from_mars is a techno-focused label concept headed up by MNTL, and the new release features music from the label owner along with a remix by Andre Crom. 

MNTL is the techno alias of Montel who has an accomplished back catalogue including collaborations with the legendary Kevin Saunderson, and his music has been reworked by renowned producers such as Tiger Stripes, Boxia and Andres Campo.

The EP’s opening track “Bad Blood” has thrashing percussion and bone-rattling rhythms. Acidic and sinister, the brooding atmosphere has industrial tones set for dance floor destruction.
