The London-based Marsyas Trio, formed in 2009 by graduates of the Royal Academy of Music, is the UK’s leading flute, cello and piano ensemble. The mythology of Marsyas’ name represents the trio’s ambition to revive and challenge tradition in chamber music. The Trio inspires a generation of new works through commissioning initiatives and recording projects, while bringing to the public forgotten music from the Classical & Romantic eras to the present day.

The Marsyas Trio has been delivering engaging and innovative work in the publicly funded arts sector for over a decade - unique within classical chamber music, their ‘no-boundaries’ ethos focuses on women composers and cross-art collaborations.

The ensemble has gratefully received generous support from many organisations including Arts Council England, RVW Trust, PRS Foundation, Hinrichsen Foundation, Hope Scott Trust, Marchus Trust, Ambache Charitable Trust, Fidelio Charitable Trust and the Britten-Pears Foundation. 

The Marsyas Trio’s first North American tour was supported by the HMUK Doing it Differently fund, during which they performed music by British and American women composers from their critically acclaimed album In the Theatre of Air.

Norwegian Hardanger fiddle music with authority, power and nuance. 

Britt Pernille Frøholm is considered one of the finest Hardanger fiddle players in Norway. She is a versatile musician who has released several critically acclaimed albums in multiple genres, from traditional folk music to free improvisation with jazz musicians.

In 2014 Frøholm was named Norwegian Champion at the National Championship Landsfestivalen i Gammaldans.

She is a founding member of the groups MAAR, North Pole Experience, and BOREAS, and a member of Friensemblet in addition to her solo projects.

Ellie Wilson is a violinist and composer. Her music has been described as ‘beautifully poised’ (Errollyn Wallen, BBC Radio 3), ‘haunting … impressive’ (Fringe Review) and ‘rich, ancient and rootsy’ (Elizabeth Alker, BBC Radio 3). Ellie’s work melds contemporary classical, folk, and electronica and her output ranges from live performances, to immersive sound installations and music for theatre.

Her solo album 'Memory Islands' is released on the Bigo and Twigetti label 29 September 2023. It is a collection of new works for violin, hardanger fiddle and electronics which explore the strange landscape of memory, lingering traces of the past and the spirit of place.

Recent highlights: The score for Shakespeare’s Globe productions of Henry VI and Richard III. The music was hailed as ‘impressive … this season’s most memorable’ (Fringe Review) and described as ‘melt[ing] seamlessly into the drama’ (The Guardian). A sound installation created as part of Ellie’s Epping Forest artist residency called 'Unearthing Stories of the Forest' which explored the human impact on Greater London’s ancient woodland through the centuries. It was described as ‘Brilliant ... A rich audio tapestry of folk and drones’ (Luke Turner, The Quietus). A piano piece called 'Waiting' for pianist Rolf Hind, which was premiered at London’s King Place.

Ellie is a former member (2014-2019) of ‘Britain’s most exciting new folk band’ (Uncut Magazine) & 5-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominees, Stick In The Wheel.

Due to social distancing and self-isolation, our sense of place has taken a hit in recent weeks. But living in isolation has also started to make us all think differently, not just about the fragilities of our world but also about our need to be connected to it, and to each other. Normality may be something we don’t return to, or even wish to return to, and there is a growing sense that so many things might re-align in the future. 

With this in mind I’ve started Re-Place, a set of re-mixes of the songs from my 2018 project ‘In Place’ and a chance to form a community of online creativity during this strange period we all find ourselves in. Nothing too serious. The idea is very much that any of the shared elements of the original audio can get mashed up into a new alignment. No rules. No expectations. A straight-forward celebration of our connectedness.
