Agents Of Time - Stoke

Stem Records imprint kicks off 2014 with a two track single, comprising an original track from Agents Of Time, entitled ‘Lost Dreams’, and Orbis Terrarum turning a remix on the flip side.

Italian trio Agents Of Time aka Andrea Di Ceglie, Fedele Ladisa and Luigi Tutolo, are fresh names on the scene, making their debut on Stem Records. ‘Lost Dreams’ is the first single from Agents Of Time’s forthcoming L.P set to drop via Stem later in the year, seeing the outfit deliver a sound characterized by a fusion of electronica, techno and ambient soundscapes. A perfect fit for the Stem Records back catalogue, which has seen the spaced out sounds of Legowelt, the hypnotic, vocaldriven electronica of Mooryc and Ted Alexander’s gritty house style featured.

The original mix of ‘Lost Dreams’ kicks off the single, seeing the trio play on ethereal ambient soundscapes, bumpy analogue rhythms, whirring, distorted guitar tones and arp-style synth lines. Creating a ghostly, entrancing atmosphere that subtly blooms as the record progresses, while intermittent breaks introduce swirling dub echoes and vocal murmurs, to further fuel the expansive dynamism of the composition.

Then on the latter half of the single we see Orbis Terrarum rework ‘Lost Dreams’, taking things in a more upfront, hook-driven direction, bringing a weighty kick and lingering stab sequence to the forefront, while sporadic percussive hits, expansive reverberated vocals and tension building pads, generate a cold big-room vibe, which much like it’s predecessor seemingly never falters and keeps unfolding, yet in a more refined and understated way this time.

As always from Stem Records we have more classy, sophisticated electronic music here, kicking off 2014 brilliantly for what’s expected to be another great year for the imprint. Agents Of Time’s ‘Lost Dreams’ EP is out on Monday 27 January 2014.

Activist of the French underground techno scene for more than ten years and with releases on prestigious labels such as Mobilee, Correspondant or My Favorite Robot, Nhar is an artist who needs no introduction. 

We're very proud to release his new EP on our humble imprint. 

If Nhar spiritual roots are firmly anchored in a futuristic kind of techno informed by science fiction and new technology, his heart is definitely beating at a much more human pace; his music tinted by the torments and heartaches of human beings. 

Nostromo and Kartveli, the two originals pieces presented here, are futuristic and melodic, enveloped in synthetic pads and strings. They diffuse a warm analog sound and could easily soundtrack a journey on a spinner - those flying cars floating on the night skies of Blade Runner. 
Melodies and vocoders collide and swirl over vintage drums machines and discoid bass lines as you are dreamily watching landscapes of the future through your window. 

The remixes continue with the dreamy robots vibe of the originals while stepping up the energy. 

First, we find Canadian producer Fairmont who takes on Kartveli. 
Another artist who needs no introduction, Fairmont's work is not completely far off Nhar's productions, in the sense that both artists have a real love of melodies and dreamy electronic textures. 
His remix tones down the airiness of the original and adds a mean metallic snare, boosting the driving feel of the track and turning it into a peak time monster. 

Nostromo is revisited by Tunnel Signs who accentuates the techno side of the original with the addition of a disturbing siren and steady beat, it all gets very bleak and darker, especially with the introduction of lethal EBM bass line in the second half of the remix. 

To close the EP and send us to dream of electric sheeps, Franz Kirmann brings a futuristic twist to his ambient and reinvent Kartveli as a romance between a human and a Nexus 6 replicant.

Correspondant present the vinyl sampler for their 3rd label compilation. Following in the success of the previous two entries in the series, this latest edition provides a perfect snapshot of how the relatively young label has matured over three years, with contributions from a range of artists including big names (such as Roman Flügel and Chloe), close Correspondant family (like Man Power and Red Axes), and exciting new rising talent (including Bird of Paradise and Sigward).

With eight tracks, split over two records, Compilation 03 sees curator and label owner, Jennifer Cardini, displaying an even wider musical breadth than the previous two compilation incarnations, but still represents the undefinable yet unmistakable sound which truly marks out Correspondant as unique.

It’s been 7 years since "7 Dunham Place“ - my first electronic album. An artist album isn't just a compilation of club tracks. It’s a concept that allows experiments, that opens up spaces for narratives, and allows the artist to go really far. At least that is the way I see it. I put everything into it, it was all or nothing. Martin Buttrich and I packed our studio and moved to Brooklyn in 2006. That album is a musical document of my time in and experience of Brooklyn, it sums up a period of my life, and for me it was a natural conclusion.

After "7 Dunham Place" there weren’t enough stories for an album. I was in the mood for straight, banging club tracks - for singles. I’d say that my "Toxic" EP from 2012 marks the end of that period. It was the time when I built my studio in Düsseldorf, and loose stories and ideas slowly intensified and condensed.

We invited guests to jam with us, rock the drum machines, synths and old, raw gear with us. Guti, Miguel de Ipola, Kobe aka Pimp Jackson, Chevy, my old hip-hop crew with whom I used to share stinky hotel rooms and tour buses in 1995. All the dots connected. What was meant to be warm-up sessions with guests, instantly became the sound I was looking for and the soundtracks to these new scenarios.

Then the features came...

There are strong bonds with all artists involved and everything unfolded naturally. I danced to Neneh Cherry's music when I was hip-hop kid, and I still do. Pulshar is one of my favorite bands who's two albums we released on my label Desolat Music Group. With Just Blaze, it was like two hip-hop guys working on something completely different, something harder, and it instantly worked. Jaw is not only that crazy guy who shares Tunisian roots with me, but his voice is special and fitted perfectly. Behind Mr. Techno there is Chris Liebing, super warm and funny guy with whom I share a lot, but whose artistic expression is quite different than mine, so here the opposites collide. Miss Kittin is a long time friend, and it was only her who could have completed that one song. Last but not least there is Giggs. You can’t ignore him if you look out of the US hip-hop box. He is unique. When I met him in London and played him the album, he was totally diggin’ it, he understood where I wanted to go with it, and I had him on board.

There have been so many changes around me since my first album that has become the narrative for "Underground Sound Suicide", and in a way I used music as a transmitter. It comes from the heart and is a testimony of who I am now.

Ultra Music's got my back on this one and the album will be going through the team there. They believe in it, and I'm happy to have them on board. Also here paths are crossing again. David Waxman from Ultra and I know each other since my early gigs in NYC in the early 2000s. Now we write this exciting new chapter together.

After the success of Powers of Ten, Stephan Bodzin's latest and greatest full length, the German tastemaker has now invited a key selection of artists to remix tracks from it. This great collection will be released digitally—with two bonus remixes by Super Flu and Marc Romboy—as well as on vinyl on the 18th December 2015. The original album came in June on Bodzin's own Herzblut Recordings and was a hugely personal affair that has been played far and wide by DJs and danced to by clubbers all over the world. Now breathing fresh life and different perspectives into the original source material are the likes of big name stars Maceo Plex & Shall Ochin, Fur Coat, Extrawelt, long time musical sparring partner Marc Romboy, Pan Pot, Max Cooper, Agents of Time, Dominik Eulberg and many more. Things kick off with Ellum Audio boss Maceo Plex and Shall Ocin, who flip 'Powers of Ten' into a serene and slow burning track full of spiritual synth lines and heavenly pads, before Spanish pair Edu Imbernon and Coyu work their magic on 'Wir' and reimagine it as a sumptuous and slow burning tech track with a droning baseline and cosmic melodies. Influential Crosstown Rebels act Fur Coat then tackle 'Singularity' and cook up a brooding, elongated main room track that locks you into its groove and never lets you go. Next, long time Bodzin collaborator and friend Marc Romboy makes 'Ix' into a tense tech tool that balances on a knife edge as menacing bass roams and rolls below. From there, Cocoon team and live specialists Extrawelt makes 'Blue Giant' into a spooky minimal cut that is full of haunting atmosphere, festival headlining Second State pair Pan-Pot then offer lots of tense groove and sombre machine melodies on their version of 'Zulu.' In the second half there are dark remixes from Max Cooper, intense synth jams from Agents of Time, typically beautiful and musical offerings from Dominik Eulberg, tripped out techno rollers from Gabriel Ananda and two digital only remixes of 'Birth' that are deep and inviting from Super Flu and clean, reflective and soothing from Marc Romboy. Monoloc also comes up with the goods on his deep and dubby remix of 'Singularity'. This collection plays out almost like a mix, taking you up and down and through many different styles of electronic music, each as absorbing and essential as the next, and that's all thanks to the on point and informed A&R of label boss Stephan Bodzin.
