Which club is your favorite one atm then ?

The Elsicast series continues with rising selector @m_orphena who will be heating up the dancefloor for you on Sept 10th. We invited her over to our studio to play and chat about 10 tracks that define her as an artist.

morphena is an Argentinian born, Berlin based DJ, vocalist and music producer. Art, music and films were always her ways to connect with the world. She studied Film in Buenos Aires but she decided to move to Berlin to find her sound and to pursue her need of making music. As soon as she arrived she found community and meaning in club culture, and she was trained by the No Shade collective in DJing and by the Open Music Lab in music production. Despite two years of pandemic she has been growing and molding her sound, aiming to make uplifting sonic trips that make you both dance and feel.

"Born in Geneva, I've developed a passion for electronic music many years ago. This passion was confirmed when I moved to Berlin two years ago. Since then I learned to mix and started recording podcasts on different European labels. I also had the opportunity to mix in my home town, Berlin and Amsterdam, proposing different styles of techno. But this time I wanted to pay tribute to the oldschool electronic music from the 90's, influenced by Dr. Rubinstein, a female DJ who mixes a lot of acid house and techno from this mystic period, creating a very special and juicy vibe on every set. Enjoy the spicy throwback!

I have a rather optimistic view of the issue of gender equality in the music industry, although it is very hard for me to make a judgement on this. Indeed, it's often easier to get booked as a female DJ, because there are fewer of them in this world, but at the same time you wonder if talent isn't becoming secondary and gender a main issue, when it should be the opposite. It's surely a step towards one day achieving equality where gender is not a criteria for booking artists. I think we can get there soon because mentalities are changing fast, especially in the underground world of electronic music. Personally I have never had a bad experience, hence my optimistic side I guess! What touches me particularly are the parties where the public is totally respectful of the DJ, no matter his genre; there are no inappropriate comments or looks, just people dancing and creating one energy with the artist. I find it so beautiful and I hope to be able to experience it very soon :)"

This time we welcome one of the curators of Sound Archives broadcast Zenwerk and his friend Modest on our monthly broadcast with their b2b set which they played at the closing of FEUM party in Denmark, Aarhus.

The energies of Zenwerk and Modest didn’t just align – they harmonized, creating an unmistakable synergy (wink) with each other and with the crowd! This wasn’t just a b2b set – it was feeling, a trance-filled experience journey flowing seamlessly as the night turned into morning.

To pass the atmosphere of the mix we’ve created an analogue cover made from epoxy resin. For this cover we used Reindeer Lichen (which relates to fungus family) to pass the idea of the synergetic network experience and the beauty of nature. Reindeer Lichen is a natural bioindicator, marking whether the environment we are in is clean and in this particular case is groovy and trancey!
