Yeah, the fridge-drone must have caused the confusion of the guy. He was so hypnotised by this drone, that he forgot what was he looking for! GREAT!

Fantastic track - very polished and brilliantly evocative. This is very similar to what I had wanted to achieve (I also downloaded many similar sounds from Freesound), but I ended up doing something different. Kind of glad I did, because it wouldn't have turned out half as good as this.

When I first saw the comic, the scene of the fridge caught my eye.  There's something magical and a bit lonely about going to the fridge in the middle of the night.  You've brought that to life here.  Great work!

I recorded this track on Jan,10, after taking elements from my garden (some birds, some wind, some grass). I used one processed guitar and tried to play live to follow the graphical draw of my city weather map. It was firstly recorded on my old cassette rec, then on to my reel to reel ... and quickly mastered ... in digital ...

This week’s project is about graphic notation. We’ll find the music inherent in weather patterns. The procedure is as follows:
Step 1: Go to the website WeatherSpark.com. Enter the city/town where you live.
Step 2: Find the weather for January 10, 2014. (Depending on when you do the project, this will either be a prediction or a matter of historical record.)
Step 3: This weather website has many viewing options, but the default is to just see the temperature, and you should only see the temperature for this project. The image should roughly resemble the one associated with this post (if not visible, see image at disquiet.com). The chart depicts the weather altering over the course of the day, and has it shown in various bands, with the actual/predicted temperature as a black line, and historical highs, lows, averages, and other data depicted in more subtle shades. For additional information about reading the weather chart, visit this URL: http://goo.gl/3fRGwW. Make a screenshot of the day’s weather chart of your area, and trim it to just show that one day. Be sure to associate that image with your track, so the listener can view it.
Step 4: Produce an original track in which the weather chart is read from left to right as a musical score. Perhaps you’ll assign a different instrument or tone to each band or line. Perhaps you’ll align pitches with temperatures. Perhaps you’ll set the pace based on the time of day.

Fairlight

Superb Lyrebird calling in the early morning, not long after dawn, in the Jamison Valley. This particular area of the Jamison Valley is on the slopes of the Narrow Neck Plateau and is covered in lush, wet sclerophyll forest, which borders a small pocket of rainforest.
Some of the birds the lyrebird mimics in this performance are: Laughing Kookaburra, Satin Bowerbird, Eastern Whipbird, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, Lewin's Honeyeater, Pied Currawong, Crimson Rosella, Pilotbird, Australian King Parrot. Many of the odd sounds it makes are pure Lyrebird calls as they do have their own unique repertoire. 
In the background you can hear many Bell Miners twinkling.

Superb Lyrebird In The Jamison Valley, Blue Mountains

Breaking&Mending was made using (only) sounds recorded at the Lulu & Leo Fund event that took place on November 5, 2014 at the Museum of the City of New York.

Sounds were edited, effected, and arranged but remain fairly close to their original sources, which were:

Recordings made at a sound station at the event, where people played with everyday objects (pencils, bubble wrap, bottle filled with loose change, etc)
    
Recordings of the crowd and the space itself
    
Recording of a single note being played during the tuning of the piano just prior to the beginning of the event (this note was mapped to a virtual keyboard and used to play chords)

This was a final project for my sound design course... six separate renditions of the same minute's worth of dialogue. 

My project was inspired by my dear friend Matt Madden's 2005 comic "99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises In Style" and before that Raymond Queneau's 1947 book "Exercices de Style". Check them out!!!

The dialogue is a mash-up of multiple, random eavesdropped conversation fragments overheard while making my way around NYC. So no... it is NOT necessarily a linear narrative!!! (Disclaimer: I am still editing several sections, so this is a work-in-progress)

Subject: This project, the 14th in the weekly Disquiet Junto series, is about sonic narrative.

Instructions: You will re-tell a very short and simple story -- an anecdote really, an everyday slice of life -- utilizing sound. It will take the form of a single audio file uploaded to your Soundcloud account. You will construct this track in any manner you choose: with field recordings, music, effects, dialog, or a mix thereof. In the process of re-telling the story through sound, you may interpret it in any way you choose. My interpretation of Matt's work is one of the juxtoposition of the sense of time being both escaped and in escapement.

My first contribution to the Disquiet project, all done in one single day (busy Bank Holiday weekend).

Maybe a bit too repetetive. Should have given myself more time, but there we go.

Lazy Day (disquiet0014-oumupo)

This is something I created for the latest Disquiet Junto project. The assignment involves creating a sonic narrative for a comic created by Matt Madden. We had a lot of freedom to do whatever we wanted – straight narrative or abstract rendition.
 
The piece 1:15 am is constructed of a coil recording of my laptop, drones and tones, and a field recording of my refridgerator at the end. I also used the mac speech feature to record the dialog, but ended up granulating and delaying the sound, which you will hear midway through. My goal was to express the strange feeling of 1:15 am, especially when you’ve lost track of time.
