Introducing Talk in Technicolour, the debut release of cross-continental imprint Night Tide. Produced by label founder Eluize (Emma Sainsbury), the EP features three original tracks that showcase her unique sound. The release is rounded out by remixes from Hans Berg & Seth NK and a trippy spoken word recording discovered while digging in the archives.

‘Make Me Sin’ swells and flows. It’s a rapturous tale awash with cascading musical ideas, hypnotic rhythmic elements and a driving bottom end. This introspective cut combines orchestral instrumentation with breathy vocals from Eluize herself that sing of the lure of things that make us feel good.

‘Talk in Technicolor’, the title track, is self-explanatory. It’s a dreamy and melodic club cut that packs a surprising amount of punch. The vast palette of sounds and fine details give it a cinematic quality not often heard in music aimed at the dance floor. We recommend you close your eyes while listening — let your mind drift and see what soaring colours float into view.

On the B side, ’Up All Night’ is a sub-driven slow down. Unhurried and uncluttered, key and string lines float through open space while gentle vocals slide into the landscape, reflecting on sunsets that turn into sunrises. Hans Berg reinterprets the piece into a powerfully deep techno storm. His version is a relentless and energetic pairing of synth lines that whip and scatter over the original’s playful melodic refrains. In other words, a monster that presents a not-so-subtle call to rave.

In addition, a batch of thirty records will come with a limited edition cassette. The tape features a remix of ‘Up All Night’ by Seth NK, the master of all things lo-fi. His version is a sleazy re-imagining with trashy drums and murky tones that weave through the silt. Turn the tape over and you’ll find a bizarre recording of a young woman describing an LSD-induced psychedelic experience.

Tayi Bebba is an album tour of an imagined island; each song representing a location, event or ritual. Sonically, it's a fast moving charge across the soundscape, fusing field recordings and found sound with incredibly surgical drum programming. Flavours of house, Footwork and Hip Hop punctuate your migration with a very specific sound palate, giving this amazing work a cohesive feel.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (22nd April) This week it's a Planet Mu takeover and in Hour 1 we're delighted to welcome label boss Mike Paradinas, who has been constantly pushing boundaries with the label and under his moniker μ-Ziq for well over two decades. His contribution to electronic music is incredible when you look at just some of the names that have appeared on Planet Mu, such as  DJ Nate, Mr Mitch, Kuedo, Terror Danjah, Meat Beat Manifesto, Benga, Neil Landstrumm, FaltyDL, DJ Rashad, Luke Vibert, Machinedrum and Floating Points. We're lucky to get a preview of forthcoming material on the label and he told us;

"This is a mix I did when I had a free day. I just went through the last two months of additions to my itunes and used that as a starting point. I’ve been compiling Kuedo’s new album in the last few weeks so there are a few early versions of what will appear on that, and some tracks by Wwwings who we are releasing an EP of. Outtakes from the new JGB album (J.G. Biberkopf) on Knives and some new Ekoplekz and Herva tracks."

Third Son may have only debuted in late 2014, but what a year it’s been since. Tapping into his instinctive musical heritage, the Londoner has already landed releases for the likes of Noir Music, Sincopat and Einmusika. And – continuing a already jet-setting touring schedule – his winter plans include gigs in Kiev, Berlin and Mexico City.

2016 promises to be even bigger still. The 25-year-old already has a host of releases planned (including work for Oliver Koletzki‘s Stil Vor Talent imprint, a full album on the way and a special live set of original material is waiting to be revealed.  Form/Void EP materializes itself in the form of four original tracks with Teenage Mutants on remix duties for Stil Vor Talent. We premiere Alaska which frames a colder and darker atmosphere, the artist masterfully uses synth chords to assemble a recurring ascending groove that ultimately leads to a soft release, Teenage Mutants puts on his remix hat on this track too which is also great!

A collaboration between Aphex Twin (Richard D. James) and µ–Ziq (Mike Paradinas), Mike & Rich - ’Expert Knob Twiddlers’ was made back in 1994. Richard edited the tracks into shape later in 1996 with his new Apple Mac computer and it was released later that year on Rephlex, the label he co-owned and which released the first two albums by µ-Ziq.

This new reissued version has been carefully cleaned up, re-edited and remastered from the original DAT tapes, put into a more fitting order and, more excitingly, seven new bonus tracks and alternative versions have also been added.

The album was recorded over a few days during the 1994 World Cup, back when Richard lived in a big shared flat in Stoke Newington. Richard had tried to collaborate with a few other likeminded artists but something clicked when Mike and Rich worked together and the sessions have a unique feel; playful and at times actually drunk. These are fun experiments in the spirit of lighthearted moog pop and ripe 70s British TV themes, standing out from the po-faced electronica of the time with a garish glee.

The record was made on what is now seen as pretty primitive gear - an Atari, Roland MKS-80, Memorymoog, Roland R8 and a handful of samples on a Casio FZ-10M - but it’s to their credit that it resonates well with the hardware workouts coming out today. There's a broadminded but sloppy funk to the record, even whistling, singing and harpsichord in 'Reg' and wonky beat pile-ons in 'Jelly Fish'. There's latin piano and wheezy drunken techno in ‘Vodka’, or the sleepy spaced out ambience of ‘Bu Bu Bu Ba' with its barely contained laughter which seems to reflect the absurdity. 

The new versions and bonus tracks are an absolute delight and well worth the purchase - from a trancier version of ‘Vodka' to the wonky bounce of ‘Portamento Gosh', The 3/4 dub of 'Waltz,' the banging door bass of' Brivert and Muonds', the creepy seasick atmosphere of 'Clissold Bathroom' and finishing with the strangely graceful and serious 'Organ Plodder'. A generous and welcome return to the racks.
