A cool track I found years ago and had to get the very technical Brecker Brothers styled licks under my fingers -- and chops.  I recorded this and other tunes like it because it's so DIFFERENT than the usual stuff trumpet players play.

This was  a PITA to record. It was the early days of DIY digital recording on laptops. I was using a super slow (by today's standards) Compaq and it's internal sound card with a simple condense mic to record all this stuff.  It had a wicked latency (delay) of about 1/4 second I had anticipate all my entrances to account for the latency.

After a long absence on Soundcloud, I'm uploading more stuff again.

My first attempt recording John Coltrane's GIANT STEPS after a week of playing around with it. I've now gotten it up to the original 300 bpm tempo for a dozen for a dozen or so choruses before I'm outta ideas. Maybe I'll record and post it up when I get some free time. I should probably invest in some real recording equipment beyond my smartphone, eh?

Wish I had played in on trumpet. But I think I felt the flugel was a better fit with this smooth groove. Enjoy!

Outta all the music I can make on this piece of brass pipe, it's the high notes that gets trumpet players jazzed (pun intended)... probably because it's wicked hard to do, and to do well.

Yeah, there's a triple C in there somewhere!

I am playing more ballads on flugelhorn now with the remaining brain cells I haven't killed off playing in the double and triple registers.
