Anatu - There (Til Kolare Remix)

The pine trees blew gracefully in the breeze. Their greenery was the only thing to survive what had been a wintery onslaught. For months the country had been battered and hammered by the charge of the wind and rain. It had seemed like it would never end. Now, the spring had finally arrived and that same greenery hung beautifully from the trees of the forest. They had survived another slumber, whilst the rest of the world had crumbled, their presence had remained. 

Hector Plimmer first featured as part of a Bronswood Recordings compilation several years back. Since then he has remained low key, however, his new EP is now upon us and it has already been championed by Gilles Peterson.

Eastern System is a real beat workout, with traces of Asia in its melodies, Africa in its rhythms and a stunning choral arrangement. This, layered with a charming and somewhat nostalgic main vocal, eventually turns into a hypnotic chant towards the close. A beautifully subdued track that still manages to deliver powerfully on the dancefloor.

Elusive London-based collective EMANATA is the brainchild of  jazz violinist and composer John Garner. With a ‘no-second-wasted’ attitude, the material is created in the recording studio, laying down tunes before the buzz is gone. Improvisation and spontaneity are the foundations of this economical creative process, with a whirlpool of live sound design filling in the gaps. Whilst summoning up elements of hip-hop, jazz and ambient electronica, they give a firm salute to the sounds of tomorrow.
