Thank you, thank you, thank you for your response regarding the SMI. You are absolutely right- we have to take a step back and think about why the FOAMed movement was initiated in the first place. Not for fame or recognition, but to open up access to medical education in a public forum that can be shared with others, and for those involved in it, it truly is a personal development tool that both enhances knowledge and improves clinical practice. Some FOAMed sites may hold more value than others out there based on one's respective practice, interests, and specialty. Impact/index factor is a wash for medical journals, and if we adopt this principle for FOAMed, then we are defeating the entire purpose and perhaps even discouraging others from engaging in this forum of knowledge sharing and medical education. A vast number of FOAMed sites that havebeen developed over the past year or so, which shows that the way to really advance the FOAMed movement is quite simple: encourage others to engage, and word will spread.
