This song carries an introspective atmosphere, where melody and lyrics intertwine to reveal a deep reflection on the limits of human power. Even the mage, who manipulates unseen forces and commands hidden energies, acknowledges that his ability does not arise from himself. He creates nothing from nothing; he merely moves what already exists. Thus, the song emphasizes that true power does not rest upon him, but comes from a greater and unfathomable source.

At the same time, the song warns of the danger of corruption within this power. Its illusory glow may seduce, yet it demands a terrible price, impossible to pay. The poetic voice walks between light and darkness, confessing his inability to endure the full brightness, as if truth were both revelation and condemnation.

It is, therefore, a musical meditation on humility, limitation, and illusion: a reminder that every borrowed power, when corrupted, exacts a devastating toll.

I wrote this song originally several years ago just for solo piano for my coworker that lost her sister unexpectedly, but I decided to rewrite it for choir, orchestra and piano and change it up a little bit. "Liza’s Last Stand" is the hymn of the night when a child dared to remain standing against cruelty. Through tears and blood, Liza raised her arms in the shape of a cross against corrupt men, holding within her fragile body a force far greater than her age. Her magic, shaped since childhood by her father Vertere’s teachings of self-defense, found in pain and loss the channel that made it overflow — a silent cry transformed into power.

Each chord of the song carries the weight of her struggle: fear turned into resistance, innocence breaking into fury, a flame that burns even when the wind grows stronger. ‘Liza’s Last Stand’ is not only about the battle against Gregor and William, but about the very moment when Liza became more than Vertere’s daughter — she became a symbol of defiance and courage against the darkness.

This song expresses the events described in the chapter Echoes of Sihr – Part 2 – In the Name of the King.

Description:

This chant recalls the rise of Dinark, forever marked by its defeat in the Battle of the Four Winds, when it fell under the might of Delver. Founded by the bastard queen Dyna, cast out from her homeland, the city carried for centuries the weight and shame of its downfall. Its warriors, the Black Claws, were larger and stronger than Delver’s Belliants, yet their lack of strategy sealed their fate.

Now, in the turning of the ages, a new flame is kindled. Eldora, descendant of Dyna and queen of Dinark, is guided by an enigmatic figure who whispers promises of glory. Under this hidden inspiration, the city rises again—its walls reinforced, its armies trained, and its hope rekindled like an ancient fire.

Description:
“Liza’s Theme” is a song of sorrow and longing, built upon the fragility of a childhood cut short. The melody carries the memory of Elizabeth, daughter of Vertere, who in the midst of the terror of the Inquisition dared to resist with all the strength of her heart. When she saw her mother fall, her magic burst forth in a desperate act, until her father arrived to save her.

Yet the music is not about battle, but absence: Vertere, scarred by the pain of loss and the distance from his daughter, finds in the theme a gentle and melancholic remembrance of the one he loves most. "Reckoning" captures the intense and perilous moment when Loufric Vertere confronts the consequences of betrayal and loss. After fleeing the castle during the Inquisition against the mages, Vertere seeks refuge at the home of Count Magno, a former friend and ally in the court of Delver. His wife, Eleanor, and his daughter, Liza (Elizabeth), have already been captured and taken to the palace.

During this turmoil, the guards escorting Eleanor and Liza attempt to take advantage of the chaos. Liza resists with her fledgling magic, but tragically, Eleanor falls and dies. Vertere arrives just in time, saving Liza and eliminating the threat, bringing her to Magno's home for safety.

However, betrayal strikes again: Lord Damian, present during these events, reports to the Chancellor that Magno is harboring a mage.

Now, Vertere returns to retrieve his daughter, only to be confronted by Damian — a tense and fateful encounter that erupts in a dangerous dialogue filled with deception, anger, and the haunting weight of loss. "Reckoning" embodies the tension, sorrow, and fiery confrontation of that pivotal moment."*

“The Book” is a piece shrouded in mystery and omens. As Dilem enters the barn to feed Garran, he hears a strange sound coming from his father’s old chest — a distant whisper, almost like a call.

Inside, he finds a blood-red book, marked with a symbol and words that seem to pulse with a voice of their own. Years earlier, Nathan had discovered that same book and tried to unravel its secrets — instructions of a power long forgotten. He failed. But his young son, repeating one of those words in innocence, ignited the fire.

Fear made him forget. But now, drawn once more by that call, Dilem reads the word his father once underlined, and the power awakens — fire returns to the world, breaking the silence of centuries.

The music follows this awakening: the murmur of the unknown, the memory of fear, and at last, the rise of the flame.

Context:
An alternative version of the central theme from the AEQUUS saga, this piece revisits the origins of the universe of Fulgor — a time when magic first awakened, more than seventeen centuries ago, bringing uncertainty and fear to the hearts of all races.

“The Little Mage” tells the moment when the impossible awakens once more in Fulgor. The melody begins with soft, almost childlike notes, reflecting the serenity of a quiet morning in Nathan’s home, where he watches over his two-year-old son, Dilem. Amid the crackle of the fireplace and the distant murmur of the wind, Nathan turns the pages of an ancient book covered in dust — a mysterious tome filled with forgotten symbols whose origin no one remembers.

Seventeen hundred years earlier, an inquisition had silenced magic, destroyed its practitioners, and erased every trace of their deeds. Since then, the world had lived in ignorance and fear, believing that magic was nothing but legend.

While Nathan attempts to decipher a simple spell — an incantation meant to kindle a flame — his voice trembles and fails. The book remains still, and nothing happens. Then, with innocent curiosity, Dilem watches his father and tries to repeat the words he heard, broken and incomplete, in the uncertain speech of a child. A moment later, fire bursts over the cauldron, filling the kitchen with a living, golden light.

At that point, the music transforms: the notes rise in wonder and tenderness, marking the rebirth of something long forgotten. Nathan realizes that the gift has awakened in his son — the first mage to be born since the great extinction.

Dilem, born without a single strand of hair, bears upon his body the sign of the ancients: the axia, the inevitable price carried by those touched by magic.

Hey everyone! My name is Emerson Marçal. I’m not a professional musician, but I’ve always loved soundtracks, they’ve been my passion since forever. I play a bit of keyboard and started messing around with some compositions a long time ago, on my first keyboard, a Roland Prelude. That was about 14 years ago! Actually, those old songs are still here on SoundCloud, in a playlist I kept.

Nowadays, I’ve decided to create a few new soundtracks, but it’s all very simple, just to bring some emotion to a story I’m writing together with my friend Rafael R. Oliveira on the Inkspired platform. The book is called Aequus, and it’s a huge saga we’re building together. It’s a long-term project, probably more than 5 years of work. The links to the story are in the description of each song.

Some tracks have small audiobook excerpts, with dialogues and monologues from the story’s characters. But there are also versions without audiobook, for those who prefer to listen to just the music, no narration. However, these audiobook snippets are very short, just a small sample that doesn’t take over the entire track. Usually, they’re only at the beginning.
