Unsettling Whispers portrays the arrival of Loufric Vertere and Luci at the imposing black castle, where they are welcomed with banquets and sweet words. At first glance, everything seems grand and inviting, yet something feels wrong in the air. Whispers move through the corridors, and behind the flattery, a silent intrigue begins to take shape.

While Luci senses echoes of dangers she once faced, manipulation, enchantment, the slow poisoning of the will, Vertere begins to yield to promises of power and revenge, spoken softly into his ear. The castle, steeped in tales of betrayal, becomes a stage where ambition, memory, and seduction intertwine. The whispers grow louder, and each note reveals more of the inevitable fall of a man who has already lost everything, and now may lose himself.

Music: Reckoning

Context: (Contains Story Spoilers)

"Reckoning" captures the intense and perilous moment when Loufric Vertere confronts the consequences of betrayal and loss. After fleeing the castle during the Inquisition against the mages, Vertere seeks refuge at the home of Count Magno, a former friend and ally in the court of Delver. His wife, Eleanor, and his daughter, Liza (Elizabeth), have already been captured and taken to the palace.

During this turmoil, the guards escorting Eleanor and Liza attempt to take advantage of the chaos. Liza resists with her fledgling magic, but tragically, Eleanor falls and dies. Vertere arrives just in time, saving Liza and eliminating the threat, bringing her to Magno's home for safety.

However, betrayal strikes again: Lord Damian, present during these events, reports to the Chancellor that Magno is harboring a mage.

Now, Vertere returns to retrieve his daughter, only to be confronted by Damian — a tense and fateful encounter that erupts in a dangerous dialogue filled with deception, anger, and the haunting weight of loss. "Reckoning" embodies the tension, sorrow, and fiery confrontation of that pivotal moment."*

Damian: "Well, well... if it isn’t our runaway mage, Loufric Vertere. Those who are alive always show up."
Vertere: "Where is Count Magno?"
Damian: "I am now the new Count of Límia... Magno has been sent to Vicídia."

Damian: "Your daughter is fine...I’m taking care of her for now."
Vertere: I want to see her."
Damian: "Of course, Loufric... why not come inside?"
Vertere: "So, what are you waiting for?"
Damian: "Nothing... just that you come in. Your daughter isn’t here."
Vertere: What trick is this?"
Damian: "When the Inquisition began, Count Magno summoned me that night and tried to convince me to help him in his plan to hide your daughter."
Damian: "I had great respect for Magno... until I discovered he counted you as a friend. A Verberaque..."
Vertere: "You’d better watch your words."
Damian: "I’m saying it’s better for you not to try anything. I have four guards around the house."
Vertere: "Where is Liza?"
Damian:  "I don’t know. As soon as I reported Count Magno to Chancellor Eldric for hiding your daughter, he found out before me and had her flee."
Vertere: "I’ll wipe that insolent smile off your face, you pathetic little lord."
Damian: "Guards! Seize him!"
Guard 1: "Yes, my Lord!"
Vertere: "GLAMÚRUS!"
Damian: "What is this abomination you’ve made?"
Vertere: "Are you blind? It’s a wall of ice, you fool."
Guard 1: "My Lord, we’re trying, but we can’t get through."
Vertere: "Well, MY LORD, let’s see if you’ll be smiling now."

Seven for a Secret (not to be told) was inspired by the traditional children's nursery rhyme One for Sorrow. The nursery rhyme is based on an old superstition, which states that the number of magpies one sees determines if one will have bad luck or good luck. 

A common version of the rhyme is the following one:

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret,
not to be told.
Eight for Heaven, 
Nine for Hell,
Ten for the devil's own sell.

Hey everyone! My name is Emerson Marçal. I’m not a professional musician, but I’ve always loved soundtracks, they’ve been my passion since forever. I play a bit of keyboard and started messing around with some compositions a long time ago, on my first keyboard, a Roland Prelude. That was about 14 years ago! Actually, those old songs are still here on SoundCloud, in a playlist I kept.

Nowadays, I’ve decided to create a few new soundtracks, just to bring some emotion to a story I’m writing together with my friend Rafael R. Oliveira on the Inkspired platform. The book is called Aequus, and it’s a huge saga we’re building together. It’s a long-term project, probably more than 5 years of work. The links to the story are in the description of each song.

Some tracks have small audiobook excerpts, with dialogues and monologues from the story’s characters. But there are also versions without audiobook, for those who prefer to listen to just the music, no narration. 

I really believe in this story and I’m trying to share it with anyone who might be interested. If you enjoy any of the songs, I invite you to check out the Aequus Saga, because these tracks exist because of it.
