This album was originally released for streaming in 2020 and is appearing on SoundCloud for the first time now.  It was my first album featuring works for a large ensemble with music performed by Camerata Philadelphia conducted by Dr. Stephen Framil with guest artists Brett Deubner and Peggy Pei-Ju Yu. Tracks include THE FOUR ELEMENTS for viola and string orchestra, PAVANNE FOR A WORLD WITHOUT WAR for string orchestra, IN PRAISE OF REASON for cello, 2 horns and string orchestra and MYSTICAL SONGS for soprano, viola and string orchestra setting poems by the Spanish mystic Fernando Rielo.  The album's title comes from one of his poems.

This song carries an introspective atmosphere, where melody and lyrics intertwine to reveal a deep reflection on the limits of human power. Even the mage, who manipulates unseen forces and commands hidden energies, acknowledges that his ability does not arise from himself. He creates nothing from nothing; he merely moves what already exists. Thus, the song emphasizes that true power does not rest upon him, but comes from a greater and unfathomable source.

At the same time, the song warns of the danger of corruption within this power. Its illusory glow may seduce, yet it demands a terrible price, impossible to pay. The poetic voice walks between light and darkness, confessing his inability to endure the full brightness, as if truth were both revelation and condemnation.

It is, therefore, a musical meditation on humility, limitation, and illusion: a reminder that every borrowed power, when corrupted, exacts a devastating toll.

“Reckoning” portrays the moment when Loufric Vertere faces the consequences of persecution, loss, and betrayal. After fleeing the Inquisition, he manages to save his daughter, Liza, but arrives too late to save Eleanor. The treachery of former allies follows him when Magno is accused of sheltering a mage, leading Vertere into a decisive confrontation with Lord Damian, charged with grief, fury, and reckoning.

Dialogue:
Vertere: "Lord Damian?"
Damian: "Well, well... if it isn’t our runaway mage, Loufric Vertere. Those who are alive always show up."
Vertere: "Where is Count Magno?"
Damian: "I am now the new Count of Límia... Magno has been sent to Vicídia."
Vertere: Where is Liza?"
Damian: "Your daughter is fine...I’m taking care of her for now."
Vertere: I want to see her."
Damian: "Of course, Loufric... why not come inside?"
Vertere: "So, what are you waiting for?"
Damian: "Nothing... just that you come in. Your daughter isn’t here."
Vertere: What trick is this?"
Damian: "When the Inquisition began, Count Magno summoned me that night and tried to convince me to help him in his plan to hide your daughter."
Damian: "I had great respect for Magno... until I discovered he counted you as a friend. A Verberaque..."
Vertere: "You’d better watch your words."
Damian: "I’m saying it’s better for you not to try anything. I have four guards around the house."
Vertere: "Where is Liza?"
Damian:  "I don’t know. As soon as I reported Count Magno to Chancellor Eldric for hiding your daughter, he found out before me and had her flee."
Vertere: "I’ll wipe that insolent smile off your face, you pathetic little lord."
Damian: "Guards! Seize him!"
Guard 1: "Yes, my Lord!"
Vertere: "GLAMÚRUS!"
Damian: "What is this abomination you’ve made?"
Vertere: "Are you blind? It’s a wall of ice, you fool."
Guard 1: "My Lord, we’re trying, but we can’t get through."
Vertere: "Well, MY LORD, let’s see if you’ll be smiling now."
Damian: "Wait, Loufric... Calm Down, I’m unarmed... No... PLEASE"

Hello, my name is Emerson Marçal and I live in a world of dreams. I've always loved music. Since I was little, I listened to classical music that my father loved and I learned to love it too. However, my passion began with movie soundtracks, where from a young age I would whistle and hum melodies I created in my mind. I've always had a lot of difficulty with memory. It was hard to learn music theory, but somehow the music would appear in my mind without me having to put it on paper. When I bought my first keyboard, a Roland Prelude, I composed some harmonies and, using editing programs, I made my first instrumental song called "Sea Serenade" which you can listen to here on SoundCloud in the "Made in Roland" section. Even as a beginner, I played several separate parts and then put everything together with an editing program. I didn't create sheet music; it was just the bass clef, and the rest came from memory and through many repetitions to remember it, since, as I said, I had a lot of difficulty. After more than a decade, other tools came along that allowed me to create music with incredible timbre and performance quality. Although I can create something like that in my mind, I couldn't transcribe it into sheet music or anything like that, and even if I could, I wouldn't be able to afford an orchestra to play for me. Therefore, I use all the technology available to me to realize this dream. However, I don't expect technology to create everything. I edit, many parts and parts, until I get what I really want. I've spent almost a month editing a song. Therefore, my music does contain a good part of what I thought and wanted, and not just something I requested in a prompt. There's a whole process of verification, alteration, until I actually post the final result. I don't care if it's easier or not. Life has never been fair to me. I live in a country that, for the most part, doesn't encourage good music. There are a large number of people who only appreciate noise and drumming with horrible lyrics made solely to promote wrong and immoral behaviors. That's what's successful here. I have absolutely no means to study music theory as I would like, and there are no fair opportunities for me to dedicate myself to it. Even if I did, it would be extremely difficult to get any return from it, because in addition to that, I need to work to have at least a decent life where I can eat and have some things for myself. So, I'm just sharing this work, this dream, which I couldn't do any other way. However, the songs were created to inspire me in what I'm really doing. A story. This one is my own creation without any creative technological input, just my imagination and that of my co-writer Rafael. It's a long work that should take about five years to complete. The songs are for the book. I have no intention of selling them or becoming successful, just to add emotion and inspiration to what I'm creating. Although I managed to distribute some, my intention was only to share them. I pay for these tools and still haven't earned anything financially. I'm just using the resources I can afford. If you wish to appreciate it, you’re most welcome, and you’ll see that my work was not done carelessly.
