Whose woods these are I think I know.   
His house is in the village though;   
He will not see me stopping here   
To watch his woods fill up with snow.   

My little horse must think it queer   
To stop without a farmhouse near   
Between the woods and frozen lake   
The darkest evening of the year.   

He gives his harness bells a shake   
To ask if there is some mistake.   
The only other sound’s the sweep   
Of easy wind and downy flake.   

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,   
But I have promises to keep,   
And miles to go before I sleep,

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

This shadow,
intangible, ethereal, ephemeral
in unfluctuating symmetry

A shimmer of the sea
the glistening abyss
an eerie sunrise

A wingless bird
taking Flight

Taking flight explores identity, with subtle semitone and microtonal dissonances creating a sense of unease and insecurity. The shadow represents an inescapable reflection of oneself, always in unfluctuating and inescapable symmetry. There is a greater extent of improvisation for the performers as the piece progresses, expressing the freedom of a wingless bird taking flight.

Anna was commissioned by Diane Dever and Jonathan Wright to 'animate' one of their  'Pent House' sculptures for their entrance into the Folkestone Artworks permanent collection on 21st June 2015. What she created was a 10 minute performance inside the water tower structure of music inspired by the sculpture and the Pent Stream from which the piece takes its name. This is a studio recording of the piece made at Montrose Studios with vocals recorded at Clare Reeves Studios.

Emily Hazrati is a composer based in London. Her practice is informed by sounds and landscapes from the natural world, as well as ideas around breath, ritual, and circularity. She has a particular affinity to working with narrative and text, and is interested in collaborative, interdisciplinary ways of making art.

Emily has recently been developing her chamber opera TIDE, commissioned by Britten Pears Arts, which premiered at the Aldeburgh Festival 2022 to sold-out audiences. Upcoming projects include a new work for London Symphony Orchestra as one of their Panufnik Composers 2024/25, a song commission for Ella Taylor and SongEasel (supported by the PRS Foundation's Open Fund for Music Creators and the Fidelio Charitable Trust), and music for Uckfield Concert Brass as part of Making Music's Adopt a Music Creator programme. Other recent commissions have included for the Ligeti Quartet as part of their 'Nouvelles Etudes’ project (co-commissioned by Britten Pears Arts, BBC Radio 3, and Bourgie Hall), Oxford International Song Festival, and National Youth Choir. She has worked with the BBC Singers, Royal Opera House, Psappha, Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, and CHROMA Ensemble, amongst many others.

Emily’s music has received multiple broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, and performances in the UK, Canada, Germany, USA, and New Zealand. Her compositions have been released on NMC Recordings as part of their Young Composers 5 album, receiving critical acclaim from BBC Music Magazine and Planet Hugill. She is published in the Multitude of Voyces 'Anthology of Sacred Music by Women Composers Volume 3: Advent to Candlemas'.
