The two EPs were made at around the same time but channel different energies. Tears can be considered moody and introspective, it was written during a time of intense personal tragedy and sounds like it.
At the time I couldn't keep up with what was happening in the present so I went back to old post punk and new wave records, finding comfort and inspiration in their humanity. My intention for the Tears EP was to take the uncertain and anxious energy I felt in those records and make something that I felt would continue that tradition and make something that had genuine emotion.

Heartbreak beats (previously released as 'Raw breakbeat tracks 2019 -2020') was pure catharsis. All of the tracks were written at lightning pace with the speakers turned up way too loud (sorry neighbours!)
Although the emotions of the time bleed in to the works these tracks are exercises in pure focussed energy. Hopefully this translates to the listener.
I have removed two tracks which I thought slowed the EP down so it's even more streamlined and dynamic.

I hope you enjoy. This is a personal record and it means a lot when people take the time to get to know these songs.

Hailing from the green pastures of Somerset and currently residing in Bristol, DJ and producer Goldefish has worked over the past few years to refine his sonic palette, emerging to critical acclaim last year after Aphex Twin shared the nostalgic, breaks-driven track ‘Radon’. Shortly after, it was snapped up by Gated Recordings and released on the Passive Pleasure 12”, an acclaimed set of tracks replete with soaring pads, skittering breaks, and sublime bass tied together with an acute sense of playfulness, yet firmly rooted amongst Bristol’s bass heavy lore.

Having played the drums from a young age, rhythm is integral to every aspect of Goldefish’s musical thinking, and this is evident both in his production and selections as a DJ, with percussion often taking centre stage. Playing at clubs including Corsica studios has honed his ear for biscuity blends and unexpected (but not unwelcome) turns, drawn from a deep love of music.

This mix wends its way through the peripheral, forward-thinking sounds of the electronic music left, drawing on the jazz-tinged polyrhythms of Yak, Skee Mask, Yushh, and Mallard, before moving in the second part to the progressively more slamming end of the spectrum, featuring tracks from Objekt, Scratcha DVA, and AYA, finishing with a freaky foray into the speedier stuff from J-ZBEL, Om Unit, and Aphex Twin.
