Story Goes On

For me it was one of those songs that seem to arrive or fall out of
the sky rather than being written.

It had been quite a year, 2016.
Up until then I had never even been to a funeral but this year saw
me attend 2, as well as the unexpected passing of a dear friend's
mother and the tragic death of a young 17 year old boy, who's
family I had become friends with whilst traveling in Australia.

People were dying, people were getting sick and I was pregnant
with my now 11 month old son.
I started to realize how unfamiliar I was with death and that, up
until this point, I'd had no reason to think much about it.
But now I was thinking about it, a lot, and it terrified me.
I began to think about my own parents and loved ones dying ,about my own death and the reality that every heart beat brings us closer.
As these thoughts paraded my mind day and night, my friend
Michelle grew sicker as my belly grew bigger.

In 2012 she was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, an extremely
rare form of lung cancer and was now coming to the end of her
journey. At only 30 years old and leaving behind a husband and 5 year old son, it seemed too painful and unfair to even think about at times.
But in the end it was Michelle ,just watching her be, that gave
me the courage to look over the edge of life into the unknown and slowly start to accept death, to be curious and open to it instead of trying to pretend it'll never happen.

My son never got the chance to meet her as she left just before he
arrived, but I will always be eternally grateful and honored that I got to
spend time with her, even if it was only a short while.

This song is about the never ending dance of life and death and
all that's in between and beyond.
It was very cathartic and healing for me to compose and my hope
is that it will bring comfort to others, wherever they are on their journey.

I'm releasing this single in aid of St Vincent's Hospice. All proceeds from downloads will go to this charity. St Vincent's Hospice provided Michelle with a peaceful sanctuary and so much more during her final months.

St Vincent's take care of patients with all diagnoses not just cancer, providing specialist palliative and end of life care in the hospice and also in peoples own homes.

St Vincent's Hospice receive very little funding from the government and rely heavily on donations to continue to provided their services. I aim to raise as much as possible for them with this release.
