Waiting on Crazy is a REFRAME advocacy composition that reflects on the growing volume of fear-based narratives and rhetoric shaping public conversation — and what it means to stay grounded in the middle of it.

Across media, politics, and everyday discussion, noise often travels faster than truth. The same ideas get repeated until they start to feel fixed, and fear is presented as certainty. Over time, it becomes harder to tell what’s real and what’s simply being amplified.

This piece stays with that feeling — when everything sounds urgent, but very little feels clear.

It reflects how easily people can be reduced to numbers, headlines, or talking points, and how quickly dignity is lost when complexity is stripped away.

At the same time, it holds onto something simple: not everything needs to match the volume around it. Some voices do need to be heard — but being heard doesn’t always mean being the loudest.

Waiting on Crazy comes back to a simple truth — what lasts isn’t always what makes the most noise.

Across history, fear-driven moments have surged, dominated, and faded — and this moment feels no different. What remains is what people choose to hold onto: truth, memory, and the decision to stay human.

Wagner holds an MDiv from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. An ordained pastor of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, he hails from Conroe, Texas.
