@deadlynuance: Thanks! think i spent days tweaking the sound and rendering loops. wound up importing the virtual instrument (Harmless) & fx rack (Guitar Rig 4) into the sample based project till i liked how it was mixing. also have a fast bass version that i'll be sharing when it's ready.

@deadlynuance: Thanks! when i sat back to listen to it play with the bass i started thinking that myself. may have been the influence for running the loop through Traktor's Beat Slicer effect.

@deadlynuance: thanks! went through different patterns on the chords before i found this one.  then i bounced it back and forth between FL Studio & Traktor until i liked the fx layers. mmm, Mulholland Drive, an fx so nice i used it twice.

@deadlynuance: Thanks! this is the bassline that makes me think there might be a second song mashed in. or, possibly a part II concept (2nd movement?). might actually be able to make 3 movements using slow (8th note) and fast (16th note) versions of the main bassline with the alternate bassline as contrast between them. hmm, things to consider.

@deadlynuance: heh, Thanks! i laugh because of the number of times i redid the percussion loops. after i thought i got it right i realized i didn't pitch the kick and snare 7 notes above Eb. had to hack up the loops to repitch them. after that, things started to sit better in the mix (to my ears i should say).

@deadlynuance: Thanks! still working on this part. feels like it jumps out of the mix a little too strongly. been setting up an fx rack that adds distortion and noise before applying an LFO modified autofilter effect. also, think i'm starting to notice a pattern that suggests i like composing sequences like this.

didn't feel anything in the way of inspiration in the beginning, but after i finally got my hands on Traktor Pro 2 that changed. mostly, it helped me change the way i approached the process. did lose some time trying to route audio between Traktor & FL Studio while keeping the signal path 100% digital, but with the help of the Jack Router (ASIO) i found a functional arrangement. think there might be some MIDI Sync hiccups in a couple of places. due to setup, the song was played in real time while being rendered to the hard drive. don't know if that helped the lofi effects any. starting to think there's actually 2 different songs mashed together in the track. might try splitting it into 2 sometime after the judging phase is over. levels are still an issue in places. some things seemed loud in headphones but quiet in the car (or cellphone in some situations). definitely a track i'll want to work on more after all hardware & software issues i'm facing are ironed out. just glad i had enough processing power for a realtime mixdown. 


ACK! just noticed some automation was missing. no choice but to let it ride at this point.

I had the chance to meet the Robot Heart crew twelve years ago in NYC for a giant Halloween party where I played on the ‘copy bus’. 

That was a life changing moment somehow. I realized my music could be the soundtrack for a world that’s beyond our imagination, far from my Paris studio.

In 2023, I come full circle by performing at Burning Man for the very first time with my partner Liset Alea. 

This Thursday sunset set was a moment we’ll savour for years to come.

In this live recording you’ll hear: Liset singing 30 feet above the ground from inside the blinking heart, the voices of multiple colorful creatures dancing all around us, the massive Know Audio custom sound system rumbling under our feet, the laughter of unicorns, dragons and shamans… and if you really listen carefully you might even hear the buzz of a billion stars shimmering above our head.

Memories of Robot Heart founder Geo carried us along the set. His legacy will live forever.

Thank you Robot Heart for your commitment to music, love and Burning Man.
