Over a five week period I will be releasing a new 15 track Moving Shadow tribute mix weekly, each dedicated to a specific year from 1993 to 1997. I think that when you hear the whole series, you will be able to understand just what an amazing and creative label Moving Shadow was, as in the space of just five years they released everything from euphoric breakbeat hardcore to sinister darkcore to jungle anthems to rugged hardstep to smoothly atmospheric drum n' bass to fearsome techstep, and beyond.

75 Shadows Mixes

75 Shadows 003: 1995 [Moving Shadow Tribute Series]

Here we are with Volume 2 of my Liquified Soul sessions mix series. Two hours of soulful liquid drum & bass - on the deep, jazzy, and melodic end of the spectrum. Some dubby heaters in there as well, for good measure.

Compared to Volume 1, this one goes a bit more uptempo with higher energies -especially in the first hour, while the latter half goes deeper and more melodic which is more reminiscent of Volume 1. 

Featuring music from artists such as Calibre, LSB, Janaret, Zero T, FD, Goldie, Redeyes, RoyGreen & Protone, Atlantic Connection, Marcus Intalex, Syncline, and many more. 

Some prominent labels featuring in the mix are The North Quarter, Jazzsticks, Spearhead, Liquid V, Footnotes, Hospital Records, etc.

The response to Volume 1 was astounding, so I hope you all enjoy this next chapter as well.

One fateful day entitee sent me Red Army’s way and we’ve been fast friends ever since. Not only has this guy overcome some seriously intimidating personal hurdles to play, make, master and put out some of the best (and wildly underrepresented) jungle and drum and bass out there, Red Army also finds the time and energy to be one of the most genuine, enthusiastic, and easy to work with people I’ve ever met. He immediately hopped in the fray with EMP, forming a large part of the backbone of our Wednesday Slappy Hour shows, involving us in his Armory release parties, and helping us organize events, releases, and connect with other amazing artists. He’s also given us this fire 95 minute mix with so many illegal dubs we decided to cut the tracklist and let the music speak for itself. Enjoy.

When we decided to get a boat for the San Diego EMP meetup this year, there was a lot of talk about who should get to play it. A couple different ideas were floated, playlists discussed, corporate performance licenses went unpaid for, and so on. I ultimately gravitated towards the idea of Speakeasy Ray just soundtracking the whole fucking thing.

If you've never heard any of his Tiki Tuesday shows, I can't recommend them enough. Not only is this well-groomed gentleman and scholar a superb selector and story teller of all manner of vinyl rarities and exotica, you might even catch a stray set of minimal house, vibey dnb/jungle, and who knows what else here and there. His deft, masterful versatility never comes at the expense of the vibe, only ever bolstering it further.

Unfortunately, Ray couldn't join us that weekend himself. But when I asked him if he'd do us the honor of a two hour mix for the occasion, his response was enthusiastic and I got the recording back day of. Much as I'd hoped, this set was the perfect soundtrack for a hungover, Sunday morning victory lap around the San Diego harbor. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
