I have been trying to play the guitar since the early 70s but even after all this time still don’t think I’m really good enough to actually call myself a guitarist.  I was lucky that there were always guitars laying around the family house and could therefore pick one up any time I wanted and strum away to myself.  Having two older brothers who were semi-pro musicians was also a big encouragement and I used to love going down to see them rehearsing with the band they were in at the time, developing a yearning to join them, whilst never believing it would actually happen.

When I moved into a place of my own, my brother Bri gifted me one of his guitars so that I could play any time I wanted.  I can’t actually remember when it occurred to me that I was actually starting to write my own songs but as I continued to play,  pleasing chord structures just seemed to emerge and I started to sing along.  Eventually, I wrote down some lyrics and gave each piece a title. It became a kind of therapy, channelling a lot of my personal and political frustrations into song but keeping it all to myself.  Fear of rejection ruled my thinking for some time.

That I managed to overcome that, tentatively recording a few songs onto cassette and sending them to Bri & Gal turned out to be one of the best things I ever did.  I’ll never forget them calling to say they thought the songs were great and that we must get together to rehearse and record them. 

So that’s how Root Division became an actual band.  We drafted in John Palmer, who had played bass in the band I used to see rehearse all those years before and soon after, there we all were in my living room, recording my songs onto Bri's four track reel-to-reel machine.  It all seems pretty stone-age now but it sounded bloody great to me.  

Those first sessions were recorded in a house on the edge of a school playing field (I was the groundsman) so we could make as much noise as we liked.  Later on, we gravitated to the attic of a house Bri was sharing, going on to record 13 songs and having a blast in the process.  The memories I have of those days still loom large in the memory.  Days full of wild ideas and even wilder laughs.  Days I will never forget.

In all the nostalgia of yesteryear, we mustn’t forget Hans Albers, who has once again produced another brilliant arrangement.  I cannot ever thank him enough for everything he brings to these songs.  Thanks to you all for listening.  Your encouragement means everything.  (Terry Reeves)

Erika did this with mediocre tracks from my mediocre machine from across oceans and made it wholesome and enjoyable to listen to bringing out the true essence of the moment! Adam & I are deeply grateful for her time and energy. She is a true Rock & Roll Diva that deserves the worlds recognition for her numerous contributions to the art!
