After rare apparitions on compilations, sound designer Victor Morello aka @zerocrossingpoint brings to light his very first full length release. "Iteration of the Self" gathers 8 tracks created on a 4 years interval and based on countless reworks and adjustments, mirroring a dense period of self transformation for the producer. Inspired by Ambient, Musique Concrete, Film Score, Club and Metal, Zero Crossing Point delivers a stunning piece of hybrid electronics, sometimes extreme, sometimes uplifting and cinematic.

Use and abuse of home made synthesised sounds and personal field recordings create an uncommon universe in which reverb, granular synthesis, distortion and resonators pave the way for an astonishing sense of narration. Drawing inspiration from nature observations, bizarre movies, books and video games, the Grenoble-based producer built a wonderful piece transcribing strong unsayable emotions and exploring the concept of iteration.

»vortices« is ueno masaaki’s first release on raster-noton, and the seventh release of the unun series.

ueno masaaki takes his musical cue from natural phenomenon and laws of nature by trying to reconstruct, not simulating them. the results are mainly rhythmical patterns that set off a chain reaction, expanding and contracting and creating new formations all the time.

the four tracks he presents on the EP are characterized by solid sound structures that appear to be very harsh and straight, sometimes even brutal, whereas the high pace even intensifies this impression. apparently repetitive at first sight, the tracks are in fact highly complex and intelligently arranged, presenting unforeseen breaks and shifts in direction.

Straight out of Russian lands, silént phil & Waveform Bat present us with a synthetic being, a singular entity born in the coldness of a printed circuit board. Quantix is an intense shapeshifting track, a bright ecstatic layering of unsettling basses, glitchy synths, and artificial tones.

Expanding further the processes of collaboration of the CLMxGUN project, SEED singles are individual tracks resulting from a spontaneous association between two or more members of the Global URL Nation.

Emerging from the cross-pollination happening among the GUN community, they recombine musical genres and cultural backgrounds into a variety of sounds, producing new breeds and species in the landscape of electronic music. They blossom along the trail of the CLMxGUN journey, providing unique delicacies and brief satisfactions to be picked up and enjoyed in the moment.

Currently studying multimedia composition in Hamburg, MICHAELBRAILEY has spent the past several years cultivating the ground where text, lo-fi and hi-fi sound meet. the broken heart is more than a metaphor it is terraforming in action is his most concise personal statement to date, as well as his APR debut, an examination of love as a selfless, celebratory one-way transmission.

Across four tracks, the Manchester artist explores lossy love as a product of post-digitality, reimagining data’s journey through the sky, across mountains and over oceans as worthy of dedication in and of itself. the broken heart seeks to elicit sensations of overwhelm, filtering an entire field of human emotion into a single, fallible human experience.

EP opener “feathered comet” functions as a sensitive biological system narrowed into the scope of a sonic field, only to seep and swell beyond its boundaries. Voice is a tensile quantity, a control factor in a system constantly threatened by hard and soft noise. “waters of love” follows as steady crescendo, an overlay of voice and voice-to-text culminating in cries of “I wonder if he feels it” and an insatiable whirl of strings and digital clicks.

“remove protection” follows as the broken heart’s most defined pop moment, an almost big room outgrowth that tethers protection and innocence in an almost intolerable dance. As closer, “a bridge to you” features the stripping away of all else, leaving only dermal surface for voice and sprightly noise to scurry and flit across.

Short in length, the broken heart emanates a sensuous fatigue, the result of a virtual condensation process transmuting love across the heart-tech interface. The EP is out digitally on May 29.

Emptyset is a London/Berlin based production project formed in 2005 by James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas. The project examines the material properties of sound and its correspondence with architecture, performance and physical modes of production. Their recorded output includes the releases Borders for Thrill Jockey, Recur and Collapsed for raster-noton, Signal a commissioned performance working with ionospheric propagation and Medium an expanded live recording in Woodchester Mansion in Gloucestershire. Emptyset have produced works and installations for the David Roberts Art Foundation, Spike Island, Tate Britain and the Architecture Foundation and presented live performances with Unsound, CTM/Transmediale, Kunsthalle Zurich, Ruhrtriennale and Sonic Acts.
