London musician @shek-o –aka Matt Scowcroft– studied at Durham University, specialising in electroacoustic composition and sound design. Although he has been producing music for more than a decade, his release for Lapsus marks his first artist album, perhaps surprising considering the overriding maturity and precision found in his output.

His debut entitled ‘Bancha' was produced throughout 2020 and skilfully demonstrates his affinity for improvisation and modular systems. The 10-track album was predominantly created from longer original compositions that have been meticulously warped and modified, resulting in an innovative and unique body of work.

Although Shek O operates in essentially ambient terrains, the British artist’s influences are wide-ranging. His overall sound bucks convention, with ‘Bancha' incorporating elements of IDM, glitch, deconstructed dub-techno and psychedelic experimental electronica, to form music without complexes or clichés.

‘Bancha' will be released mid-April 2021 on cassette (limited to 50 copies) and all digital formats.

This Spring, Intercept proudly welcomes debutant Talik for a first EP that makes an immediate impression. Cold Silver features four tracks of rhythmically inventive electronic music with a wide sphere of reference.

Talik is UK producer Charlotte Denman, who is making her production bow after a year spent honing her sound in various states of lockdown. Talik takes influences from time spent living in Berlin, Hackney and Brighton, alongside her past years at university in the Midlands amongst projects such as Watch The Hype. 

Often starting a track on the piano before moving to Ableton, Charlotte works with various field recordings, manipulates a wealth of different sounds and then organises them into cavernous, atmospheric tracks for body and mind. All of that is evident in the richly constructed tracks she offers up on this EP.

Opener 'Cold Silver' is a tense and dystopian piece with thumping broken beats and whirring machines, loopy leads and plenty of textural sonic effects that mean the whole track brims with life. 'Can You Feel It Spark' taps into late night dance floor energies with a haunting lead synth and scraping hits all unfolding over vast, lurching beats and bass. 'When The Air Runs Dry' is an accomplished ambient track with a grainy, rainy wall of sound punctuated by shards of light and hope, while closer 'A Fazed Gain' shuts things down with reverberating bass and a nebula of scraping, glitching, dripping sounds that is offset by a more smooth and serene chord sequence.

There is a duality to each of these tracks that finds beautiful tension between light and dark, harsh and soft that immediately marks out Talik as an essential new producer.

this mix was recorded in early june 2021, a time when covid lockdown restrictions were easing and I was taking my first steps back into the communal world. i met with friends. we talked about quarantine; some parts were different, some were the same. mood swings were a universal constant. in quarantine i cried, i danced, i took depression naps, i experienced beauty, i learned how to be alone, then i forgot, i fell into a hole, i got out, i fell back in, i asked for help. all in the same day, usually. this mix intends to capture the mood swings that many of us experienced when left to our own devices, and ends with a snapshot of the manic fear/joy that many of us are experiencing as we accelerate into a social calendar once again. enjoy the ride <3
