Description: Been leaning pretty hard on my AstroLab 37 for inspiration. Digging through the eleventy billion presets in Analog Lab looking for the good stuff leads to tracks it seems. This one was pretty straightforward. Had to play "find the chords" again for the chorus and ended up doing some pretty interesting inversions to keep it interesting.

I  found a vocal clip in my sample library that sounded like a creepy swarm of voices. I made it rhythmic, shifted the pitch around, and build this song on top of it.  It plays throughout the song, but the other instruments mostly cover it up except for the very beginning and end.

Nascent (Demo)

I just woke up with techno on the brain today. I wanted to do something nasty and raw, so most of the sounds you hear are multisamples of some absolutely searing old soviet synths that I picked up somewhere this year. Then I just completely blew things out with saturation, bitcrush, and other fx to make everything extra dirty.

Trinkets

Took my main melody and split it into 3 (duplicated and muted notes), sounded a bit flat so threw in a drum kit with one of Brian's Drum Midis.  Hit's a bit zombie movie credit roll, but I kinda like it.

   ● Activity: Write a melody and divide it into 3 parts, each played by a different instrument/sound.

Third track for jamuary I imposed on myself that I had to explore vectors (graph theory) in some way or shape tied to music theory. Also, the day started with some rain, so I figured I'd incorporate that. And I spent so much time on drums on the first two tracks, that I decided to go with my Univox SR95. Pros include the fact that it is a preset drum machine. It is also the twin to the Korg Keio Mini Pops 7 used by Jean-Michel Jarre. And cons, well, it is a preset drum machine. And no sync in or out, so no sequencer or arpeggiator or anything else automated.  You can add some extra sounds and combine presets (plus an A/B switch to related styles). And nothing says we can't spice it up with some guitar pedals... So that was that.

For the vectors application, I did a parallel with vectors as in live people and how viruses spread. Why not do a little graph of closely related (by notes) chords and make a progression like that, as if notes spread from one chord to another. And two phases for good measure (no pun intended), separated in the middle by some more familiar chords, as if everything was back to normal... Gave me a good excuse to do a few M7/m7 right handed, while adding some bass notes with the left

I ended up doing one complete live take and ran out of time again as it was time to mix down to stereo and upload the track. Maybe I shouldn't have tried to fix the lower B key on my Super JX-10 - it's never that simple.

Day 4 - Third String

Endless Blue, a trip-hop and downtempo fusion duo, was formed in 2003 by Minneapolis-based musicians Nick Mitchell and Laura Hillman Mitchell. Endless Blue's music blends sultry and soulful melodies with vintage synths, jazz-filled bass lines, bluesy guitar riffs, and lo-fi beats.
