Happy to share this recording of my first DJ set in Europe, recorded at Gare in Porto. I was invited to play by my family, the Hayes Collective.

Gare holds a special place for many, and will always have a special place in my heart. The crowd was sensational, dancing through the night. Vil and Cravo played a great opening set, creating an inviting mood to set the tone of the night perfectly. 

This is the first two hours of my three-hour set. The last hour was just for those who were there.

Decade of Memories saw some of the biggest names in the field come together to mark 10 years of Bassiani, an apposite mix of talents whose own times at the club have each added their own note to its story. In turbulent times and now more than ever the power of music, dance and community is needed and on October 4th these tried and true talents were just the ticket. Among them, Voiski and Sophie Phare played b2b duties on the Horoom floor, a genius pairing of two sounds who find common ground in their love of the fast and rhythmic. The former a French veteran with over a decade of tales to tell and frequent musical acknowledgement of his Iranian roots, whose ever expanding universe has charted disparate paths in collaboration with names like Heartbeat, Vril, Elliot Litrowski, Wata Igarashi, Crysta Patterson and Hadone (Vrilski, Superski, Wav, Kartel and Voiski & Hadone respectively), with over 200 releases and 20 EPs to his name on labels like Mama Told Ya, L.I.E.S., Dekmantel and Delsin. The latter a Georgian mainstay, previous podcast guest and Bassiani resident whose effervescent and catchy melodies would have a cheetah breaking a sweat. Their double alliance meanders through the ambient and expansive texture of Voiski’s world and the sagacious kitsch of Phare’s own making for a high-powered three-hour set that channels the revolutionary spirit of Tbilisi’s creative scene. With the likes of these two at the helm of the Horoom floor and on good track, the next ten years are sure to promise countless more feelings, encounters and memories. Bassiani Podcast 236 is one such special moment, recorded live here on home turf.

Here is the recording of my recent set at UMI club in Brussels (10/31/24). I took immense pleasure in crafting this 3-hour warm-up ahead of @man-outta-space and @lauracharlier. My aim was to immerse the club into the dark recesses of what Freud described as ‘Worrying strangeness’—that hidden strangeness within us all, an unfathomable mystique that shadows our existence. From this natural mystique, I sought to guide the audience through the deepest club sounds of techno, rooted in the resonances of Detroit and infused with low-end basses, adding layers of depth and reverberating intensity.

"The Berlin-based producer Ennio lets his mind wander through the deserted streets of a society in lockdown. Trying to make sense of the eerie uncertainty that exploded into our collective reality, these 19 tracks came into being during his first week in self-isolation."

I decided to use my mandatory free time to take a mental step back from the clubs as well and do something a little different.  Went by ear and tried to capture the mood: an attempt at a soundtrack to our current world. All done within the first week of our lockdown, I forewent polishment, mastering, etc., and tried to take it raw. Straight into your ears. 19 original tracks, one “album”, but best experienced as one. Hope you like it. Stay healthy, stay home. ♥ E.

How much is life trading on the Dow today?
Is this our future; is this waking up?
An epitaph for the lies we told ourselves;
the artifice of our reality lifted under threat of our shared demise;
authoritarians filling the void of authority.
Was it two percent mortality or two percent growth?
Dystopia for advanced users.

We want the world to change, but as it changes, 
all we want is to change it back.
Instead of arriving in the future, we keep walking into our present.
Too scared to go forth, too bored to stay put.
Did the race stop at the gates of history's end?

The simulation feels real lately.
A time of lost opportunity, drowned in endless possibility.
