I wrote this song while in the Navy. I had no girlfriends to cry over back then. I had to get creative and use that imagination I was belittling for possessing by the academics. I will surely amount nothing said the educated one. As they faded into the mist for which like their hollow words vaporized. No bitterness there.

'Common Enemy' is about the fact that a common threat can unite humans and make them look past certain differences to face a common Enemy. More specifically the song is about Someone that acts as a common enemy, someone trying to carry all the weight of the blame to give others a reason to unite and cooperate for good.
