Beyond the horizon... Across the Ocean...

The ocean — both wild and calm, dangerous and beautiful — is made up of majesty and mystery, and it is indeed a force of nature we stood in awe. While we may appear very small to such greatness of the ocean, human endeavors and emotions can be powerful. Beyond the horizon of the sea, we may have someone dear to one's heart. Especially during this stressful year, it's important to reflect on all of the kinship, blessings, and emotions you miss. So I wrote this piece of music and made this clip, dedicating it to all the people who love the ocean and miss their loved ones who may be missing you across the ocean.

In Her Footsteps is a deeply personal tribute to the life and legacy of
Lavinia Richards. While composing this piece, I found myself tracing the
echoes of her journey—the kindness she shared, the wisdom she
imparted, and the quiet strength that defined her. Each phrase is a step
along the path she walked, a path that continues to inspire those who
follow in her footsteps.

The piece begins with a simple, introspective melody, representing the
early moments of reflection—memories surfacing like footprints left in
the sand. As the music unfolds, harmonies bloom and rhythms take shape,
illustrating the way her presence shaped the lives around her. Moments
of tenderness give way to passages of quiet resilience, as if capturing the
essence of someone who moved through the world with both grace and
determination.

During the second section I wove in the melody of Lavinia Richards’
favorite hymn, allowing it to emerge gently from the surrounding textures
like a cherished memory resurfacing. Rather than presenting it in its
traditional form, I reharmonized and fragmented the hymn, allowing it to
flow naturally within the piece’s harmonic language. The hymn’s presence
is subtle yet unmistakable—at times nestled within delicate counterpoint,
at others blossoming into fuller, more radiant voicings—serving as a
musical reflection of the comfort and faith that guided her life.

This piece is not only a remembrance but an invitation—to walk, if only
for a moment, in her footsteps.

Title: Brother Tiger (호랑이형님)

San-goon, a powerful tiger who swore to protect the children of his old master. Despite his prowess, he could not stop the imminent evil, threatening the balance and tranquility of the world. To ensure the safety of the children, and the new hope for peace, San-goon fights for the noble deeds, even if costs his life. 

Brother Tiger (호랑이형님) is a graphic novel written by Sang Gyu Lee (이상규) from South Korea. It presents many mythical creatures, deities, and demons which have an origin from Korea, Manchuria, China, and Mongal, narrates an epic tale of our heroes with an authentic cultural portrayal.

Inspired by this magnificent saga, my latest composition shaped around by the tale of San-goon, the noble and loyal tiger, where many of leitmotifs and musical texture have the oriental spirit.

Brother Tiger (호랑이형님)

Whims of an Evening's Breeze was written over the summer of 2019 and premiered by violinist Brigid McCarthy accompanied by pianist Flor de la Garza on November 16, 2019.
The pure and passionate sonority of the violin and the clean timbre of the piano are meant to be mixed. Some of my favorite classical pieces are violin sonatas, namely Ravel's Violin Sonata No.2 (1927), Debussy's Violin Sonata (1917), and especially Cesar Franck's Violin Sonata in A Major (1886). In Whim's of an Evening's Breeze, I attempted to experiment with and explore this beautiful relationship, writing into the piece a longing emotion and a whimsical spirit.

Enrique is an award winning composer whose music has been featured in numerous film and video game projects both in the United States and abroad. Enrique holds a Master of Music Degree in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games from the Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain. He has had several opportunities to record and conduct his music with renowned film orchestras in the U.K., Hungary, Macedonia, Venezuela, and Spain. 

Recognized for its compositional creativity and orchestral zest, Enrique’s music has been nominated and won awards in film festivals throughout the United States; most notably, he was awarded Best Original Score at the Los Angeles CineFest for his score to the animated short, “Twilight Prophecy,” in 2017. 

He has collaborated with SquareEnix, Materia Collective, PBS Digital Studios, Xigma Games, Learn 21, Player Experience, Rachun Digital Productions, Muvimon Studio, Bored Film Studios, and JonGon Productions.
