This song is a celebration of darkness, and all it has to offer. It’s that feeling you get when the sun goes down, the world shrinks a bit… and everything becomes more intimate. It’s that comfort you take in hearing the crickets for the first time in late Summer, reminding you that the oppressive heat is about to come to an end. It’s that moment when your eyes begin to fail you, but your other senses become heightened. It is the daily reset we all require.

Don’t get me wrong. Light is truly magnificent. But without darkness, it is meaningless. For us to have proper perspective, we need opposites. We need good and bad, positive and negative, light and dark. It’s how we decide who we are, and were we fit in; the surprising factor required for our self discovery.

So the next time you experience darkness, whether it comes from outside of you or deep within… ask yourself if you can be comfortable in that space before reaching for the light switch or forcing brighter thoughts. Take a moment to breath, to dust off those less obvious senses; and broaden your perspective. Bask in the reflective quiet that is unique to the darkness. And if it’s simply too uncomfortable to be in that space, you can gain insight from that as well.
