When it comes to the sound of modern-day techno—fast, melodic and polyglot, working in genres like trance and gabber—it's hard to find an artist more clearly representative than Anetha. The French DJ encompasses all these influences with style, landing on a lithe sound that's both heavy and nimble, earning her a first residency at Paris party Blocaus (and, currently, Awakenings and Fuse, among others) and appearances on labels like Work Them and Oaks.

What really sets Anetha apart, though, is her commitment to developing and uplifting the artists around her. She launched her own label, Mama Told Ya, in 2019 with a unique and heartwarming concept: each release would highlight an artist, often young or new to the game, and feature one collaboration with Anetha herself. It's a move that turns the usual label-artist dynamic on its head, making each new record a fully-fledged collaboration, and lending her own gravitas to the artist she features. And a year later she started an agency—or what she calls a "creative engine"—to help those artists in a more holistic way.

Her RA Podcast is a perfect way to start 2023: with energy and verve, and a perfect balance of light and dark. This is techno at its most creative, dark and discombobulated beats cut through with glowing vocal samples from some of the most recognizable songs of the past five years. If you wanted to explain to someone what techno sounds like in 2023, you'd do well to start here.

For my upcoming Australian debut, this 03:hr:33min long audio journey gave me the opportunity to play with energetic dancefloor music, progressive elements, melodic vocal tracks, and leftfield indie vibes, and of course a few tracks accompanied with electric violin to describe the musical story. Playing such an extended set, I felt like hiding some unreleased music in between this never-ending romance with sound - so enjoy it with a good pair of speakers and casual sense of humour! Here we see the return of the Spotlight sessions. I chose to select tracks, remixes and collaborations from the mighty Gai Barone, an absolute pioneer in the scene. From his ambient soundscapes, to trance styled and deep progressive leanings, alongside the songs in a neo pop styling it was sure to be an amazing excursion into sound, and 90 mins does simply not do the man justice (look out for further sessions)

I aimed to create a mix that would depict (in my mind) a live session from the man himself. Starting slow and bubbling through electronic soundscapes before building up the pace and intensity of the sounds. Cruising through the hypnotic grooves till the peak time shenanigans engulf your deranged senses. I hope ya dig!

After a short hiatus, E P I S O D E S is back to kick off the new year with a series of mixes from amazing individuals. 

We start 2023 by inviting my friend Tim Andresen from Copenhagen, Denmark. I first met Tim when I did a party in Copenhagen where I booked him to play before Todd Terje several years ago. I knew he was behind the club Culture Box which has been running since 2005 and was well aware of his productions and releases on different labels such as What Happens and Savoir Faire Musique, but  had never heard him play live. There is a difference between djs and djs... let's just make that clear. The art of being able to run a dance floor, keep it interesting for the crowd, never let it die and do it with such simplicity is nothing short of an art form. Tim does it and it never looks hard. He loves what he does and it shows when he plays. Since then Tim and I have played at each other's clubs and he has guested E P I S O D E S twice in the past year alone. It's an absolute honor to know you, it's an honor and such a luxury to hear you play as often as I get to and it's an honor to start this mix series in 2023 with a mix from you. This mix is simply beautiful. Full of deep grooves in the most perfect tempo that takes you across dreamy soundscapes. A multifaceted journey through time and space. Just close your eyes and listen.
