Bleep Mix 179 comes from the great Roman Flügel. A household name to many, Roman has been active since the early 1990s under a number of aliases (his tracks as Roman IV have been seemingly omnipresent in tastemaker DJ sets for the last decade). This mix is an accurate reflection of Flügel's output - delicately psychedelic, thoughtfully engineered and refreshingly unpredictable. Setting out with some staunch UK techno from Blawan & Ste Roberts, it glides into willowy house, throwback electro and breaks from the likes of Eris Drew & Legowelt, ending with an extended play of the late, great Andrew Weatherall’s Dexys edit.

Domenic Cappello is described locally and known globally as a creative visionary, a ground-breaking electronic music icon, a world-class DJ, a master of his underground trade and a true ambassador of his native Glasgow. As one-half of Subculture (with Harri), someone who has been holding down a Sub Club residency for a quarter of a century needs little introduction. Needless to say, I'm in super happy to have the pleasure to have him on board.

The set is a special one too. A 90 minute recording of Domenic's live set at "We're Going Deep" night hosted by Placid (@placid_88) and Owain K (@owaink) in November '22 at the Love Inn (@theloveinn) in Bristol.

Since 1990, Paul Wise aka Placid legendary for his sets of purest 303-drenched acid, has been spinning at house parties, clubs and festivals across the UK and further afield. Resident at the longest running and best acid house night I Love Acid, you can catch him playing at Were Going Deep parties in his hometown of Bristol and as part of Depth Perception (a collective of music obsessives playing deep electronic music across multiple genres). Placid's gigging biography has taken him to Detroit, New York, Berlin, France, Spain, Belgium and Holland as well as the Glastonbury and BLOC music festivals. 

Reputed to be the owner of one of the world's most encompassing collections of Acid House, Placid is a walking acid-house encyclopaedia who can always be trusted to dig deep into his records crate to bring you a pure vinyl set of the absolute best of Acid House, Detroit Techno, Deep House, Electro and Chicago House. He currently has a 15k strong group dedicated to the deeper sounds on facebook as Were Going Deep and his label of the same name just recently dropped their 11th release.

Some People Before [me b2b with Stojche]

This Friday’s mix celebrates some of the earlier work of Cleveland techno legend Dan Curtin. Herein you shall find a glorious selection of melodic, acidic electronica and tech house, rich with his complex, layered sound. I discovered Dan’s 1994 masterpiece The Silicon Dawn in the late 90s, and although I loved it dearly from the off, never really dug into his wonderfully diverse back catalogue to the extent that his talent warrants. Well, that’s all changed now :)

The tracklist on this mix is shorter than usual and with good reason. These tunes really deserve a chance to breathe, jam-packed as they are with ideas - you get three tracks’ worth of melodies, acidic riffs and bleeps in one. In a few cases it was hard to cut a tune even after 5 minutes, knowing yet another earworm was just around the corner. 

I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I did compiling and making it - if you do, and weren’t overly familiar with Dan Curtin before, I strongly recommend picking up The Silicon Dawn for starters, it’s an absolute classic.
