Expecting The Worst (pre-release)

Usual silly BPM business from me on this episode, starting at about 112, right up to 126, down to under 100, then back up. Always a rollercoaster! Along the way I dropped the new chart topper from my good friend Pete Ellison, Boogietraxx, Shalvoy and a load more. I also included something from Moodymann, simply because I had the privilege of seeing him this Saturday just gone in what’s basically my local park. Awesome stuff. For hour 2 it fills me with joy to welcome back my good friend and fellow Disco Walton Ken Avalon, AKA Discoholic Ken, AKA Kenny Ken Ken, AKA Kenmark for a second guest mix. The first one was waaaaay back in episode 25, right at the start of covid, and I didn’t know him at all. But since then we’ve become good friends despite still being yet to meet in real life. He runs an awesome blog at discoanon.com, an excellent show called Hot To The Touch on Friday nights on primeradio.gr, and a record label - Discoholics Anonymous Recordings - that I’ve been lucky enough to release a couple of tracks on, and I’ve got more lined up. I honestly regard Ken as my Disco Brother, and I couldn’t be happier to get him back on. 

Ken’s mix is to me like an immaculately curated little snapshot of disco right now. Not all of the songs are brand new, but there’s a very generous sprinkling of the freshest and best tracks out there at the moment. I’d expect nothing less from someone who devotes so much time to keeping his finger on the pulse of the scene and promoting, pushing and championing the music that we love. Epode produces underground House music, with focus on Minimal, 90s Deep, and Garage styles. As a multi-instrumentalist, he also occasionally releases material that may be categorized as NuDisco and NeoSoul, incorporating traditional sounds on electric bass, Rhodes Piano and various percussion instruments. 
 
Growing up in NYC, he was exposed to multiple seemingly unrelated genres of music from early hip hop, hardcore punk and of course electronic music ranging from freestyle, house and later on techno. Some key inspirations include the legendary Todd Terry, Jeff Mills and Kurtis Mantronik. Epode’s mission is to contribute to the ongoing development and evolution of authentic house music, while keeping true to the historical roots of the genre, embracing the vibe of the past while looking towards the future.
 
All music is released through his label Modamar Recordings, which was founded in 2021 and based out of New Jersey, USA.
