Exclusive Murat Uncuoglu 'Lontano Da Casa'

He's one of the thriving forces in Istanbul's floorishing nightlife, a mainstay in the national electronic music scene for almost two decades, a DJ, a producer, a trained sound-engineer, a co-label owner but foremost an artist, whose music hits the zeitgeist. Carefully selected and well-produced releases on labels such as Innervisions, Isolate and Multinotes granted Murat Uncuoglu worlwide recognition and put the artist into the scene's spotlight. As his 'Trees Of Light' EP is about to be released as early as the end of March on renowned Italian label Multinotes, Murat sat down with Torture the Artist to speak about the local electronic music scene, the role of his family for his career in the music business, his newly co-founded label Isolate and, of course, his upcoming EP.

Italian producer Dino Lenny is the Fine Human Records label head who has been making music since the 90s. He's remixed huge names like Missy Elliott and Timbaland and has been collaborating with everyone from Madonna to Wu Tang Clan to Seth Troxler & Dixon. He has been named "A wizard of electronic music" by the Chemical Brothers, played live with Underworld, released music on the likes of Innervisions, Diynamic & Correspondant, and is currently signed to Ellum. 

For his debut release on Roam Recordings Lenny delivers a stunning EP titled 'Tokyo'. The original mix showcases Lenny's original vocals woven into a dance balad that could easily fit into a classic set of 80s electronica. The Black Mami remix strips down the original vocal with a hypnotic rendition beating with pulsating arpeggios. Long time Roam alumni Damon Jee returns to deliver a huge remix that elegantly bangs out the original melodies and stylish electronics of the original.

Russian brothers Sasha and Sergey Lipsky return to Disco Halal for the third time under their famed Simple Symmetry project. Following off the back of Auntie Flo’s ‘Kabsa’, the duo’s ‘Gilgamesh’ EP is the fourth release for the label this year and continues to build upon Disco Halal’s successful trajectory.

The ‘Gilgamesh’ EP draws inspiration from the epic novel of the same name, the oldest story known to man. Leading with the title track, Simple Symmetry teams up with Mexican producer Inigo Vontier for a signature Shamanic chugger whilst one of their solo efforts ‘Fight’ is a string-heavy, psychedelic soundscape. Named after Gilgamesh’s faithful sidekick, ‘Enkidu’ continues this kaleidoscopic theme with Krautrock influences with Adam Port’s ‘Tulum By Night’ contrasting edit turns the record into a big room melody. The remix has already been heavily supported by Moscoman, Keinemusik, Âme and Dixon.

Based in Berlin, but firmly rooted in the diverse and forward-facing musical scene of Tel Aviv, Moscoman’s Disco Halal label hails from beneath the minarets of the Holy Land. The imprint exists to present a tight-knit and growing community of musicians and producers, each transmitting their unique musical identity, yet each united by a unique sensibility, as well as a harmonious balance of rhythm and experimentation.

Encompassing elements of downtempo, new-wave and alternative pop, stitched together with a leftfield dancefloor throb, Disco Halal’s back-catalogue, filled with efforts from the likes of Simple Symmetry, The Organism and Moscoman himself, has seen the imprint rapidly emerging from the once-overlooked nightlife and club scene of Tel Aviv into the worldwide spectrum.

Exclusive Tokyo Black Star - Blade Dancer (Original Unreleased Version)

When Âme and Dixon founded Innervisions back in 2005 the first EP to be released on the label was Tokyo Black Star's Psyche Dance, which included a beatless version as well as a Dixon edit of the track Blade Dancer. More than a decade later the orginal version of the track, which was reworked by Toyko Black Star in 2015, sees the light of day on Alex from Tokyo's label World Infamous and marks the 6th release. Blade Dancer has not lost any of its original spirit as it probably had marked the beginning of the Melodic House-genre before it got its name. Intriguing partly repetitive (piano) chords set the tone of the track and are modified to arpeggio-sounding sequences in shorter intervals. This procedure, the arrangement of faster following and various sound-arrays create an infective sound experience, which is even enhanced by adding rudiments of arcade game sounds that lead to an explosive blend and even turn the 2015 version of Blade Dancer to an instant classic, which should be mentioned in all books.

Tokyo Black Star's EP Blade Dancer was released on World Famous on March 13th, 2020.
