Bes was a powerful God in the Dynasty XII of the ancient Egypt, who became a defender of everything good and the enemy of all bad. The God of dance, music, sexuality, fun and also humor. Even the name of the balearic island Ibiza means “Island of Bes”. Saqqara is a vast, ancient burial ground in Egypt, where Bes used to live and entertain his sacred surroundings, where he especially protected women and children above all others. Since Biesmans made his debut on AEON last year with his “A Long Road” EP, he has continued to build a profile and musical output that is both exciting and ground breaking. So it’s with great pleasure that we welcome him back to the label for his follow up EP “Top Gun”

Biesmans has decided to showcase two subtly different versions of the title track “Top Gun”. Version 1 is a stunningly produced lo-fi disco workout with nod to 80’s synth classics. A dynamic bass line underpins a delightfully simple but effective groove and delicious melodies. Version 2 is similar in it’s approach but is perhaps a little more strident. Biesmans said “I often make several versions of a track when I’m writing and then focus in on a particular version. In this case I couldn’t decide so I figured let’s release both!'
“Dr Electric” is a more melancholy in it’s approach, with a broken beat, subtle synths and vocodered vocals taking centre stage, with almost blissful prog rock leanings in places.

Remix duties are taken up by Permanent Vacation head honcho and AEON favorite Benjamin Fröhlich and Italian duo Phunkadelica.
Both have chosen to tackle “Dr Electric” and the results are sublime. Fröhlich’s approach stays closest to the original but employs a tougher breakbeat as the foundation for his version, borrowing heavily from the synth content before delivering a driving bass line to take the track into peak time territory. Phunkadelica’s more traditional progressive house style treatment serves up a more hypnotic mix with a galloping baseline and an ever evolving layered style that draws in the listener until a breakdown delivers the spin tingling moments.

Another perfectly balanced EP from the AEON crew with something to satisfy all palates.

Exclusive Dominik Marz - Windpulver

Known for quite some Belters, partly with long-term affiliates David Kochs or Yannick Labbé, Augsburg creative Dominik Marz makes his (solo) debut on Scatcity with his three tracker Windpulver – a German word composition consisting of the words wind and powder. The EP's title track synonimously stands for Marz's preference of recording catchy synth-lines and tonally play around with them until they result in a homogenous composition. In the case or track at hand Dominik even works with two different synth-lines, as the firstly introduced one seems to have the task of providing the listener with deeper keys the second synth-line throws light upon the track and creates while interacting with the track's basis a charming atmosphere, which is hard to escape from as it's as intriguing as the singing of the Loreley.

Dominik Marz's EP Windpulver will be released on Scatcity on May 15th, 2020.

Just a few months after EdOne purveyed his own reinterpretation to
Ivory & Auggie’s leaden prototype, demonstrating a fine
comprehension of “Basic Rhythm,” he returns on MoBlack Records,
now alongside Martin HERRS, and INVŌKER on remix duties, with
“Tatalina.” On A side, the Spaniards delicately unfold a poignant
sojourn that wanders and diffuses the rims of isolation and
belonging. The tender, 6:28 minute aural escapade starts off with a
simple ingress, pummeled by an inquisitive bassline into a gripping
melodic procession. Tatalina escalates to a euphoric stillness
transcended by haunting piano chords, but breaks free when
intermittently disrupted by deep synthetic pulsations, evoking the
frailty of memory and vulnerability of emotion.
French rising star INVŌKER deploys his empowered rendition of the
title track, pulling a bit less feeling from emotion and a little more
feeling from sense. Tension and groove pull and reverb in this
particular tug of play, where space is dark, energy is incandescent
and the texture of sound is moist and locomotive. MB384 sits in the
juncture of memory, motion and emotion, a pursuit of that fleeting
moment that is only present in one instant, as well as an attempt to
prolong its existence through sound.

Ramping up the ferocity to full play, Yubik resculpts the VA boundaries like there’s no tomorrow, throwing out intense shade and making us tick nervously in between the nooks and crannies, as the beat whips itself confidently to form the outline. As they pine themselves away, stone-cold pulsations leather against the velvety vocals of the original ‘Movement And Codes’ from Recent Arts, creating a rather haunting climate which mystifies to full voltage. “A lightning bolt” as so perfectly put by Yubik, we can feel the ground shaking as the drums blister down and slay around to their demise. For a brief, yet completely beautiful moment, the atmosphere swirls itself to let the intensity blow over, before the climate regains stronger ground to a more authoritarian frequency, splicing the intensity and raging itself chaotically till its temper boils over and the volume has over-expanded the electricity.

Recent Arts - Movements & Codes (Yubik's We Are Fictional Edit)

'Scatcity are renowned for producing serious melodic collections and their tenth release certainly doesn’t disappoint as Spanish producer Yamil offers up his Woodhouse EP. Label head Skatman also makes an appearance alongside Ivory, both of which on remix duty.

The title track welcomes you in, carried by deep rumbling drums than roll along as foundations to warming pad swells and echoing toplines. ‘Running Over Me’ follows, lowering the tempo with an ethereal vocal that grips you from the off, building as a concoction of stunning synths and marching percussion.

Skatman offers up a darker take with dominating reverb soaked synths darting over a pulsating bed of kicks and bass. Ivory then closes the show with rich chords jittering around a more minimalistic vocal offering.'
