Biography

Vito Palumbo has been writing music since an early age. After studying at the conservatory he graduated with honors from the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome studying with Azio Corghi. He also obtained a special scholarship personally awarded by Luciano Berio as the best graduate. In 2005 he was awarded the renowned ‘Premio G. Petrassi’ (established by the President of the Italian Republic at the Quirinale, Rome) for his compositional work.

His production in recent years has focused on large symphonic works for large orchestra. The Recorder Concerto was commissioned by Gävle Symfoniorkester and Dan Laurin, for a monographic CD for the Swedish label BIS Records.
On 17 September 2016, he recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios (Studio 1) his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra (Musikverlag Ries & Erler, Berlin) with Francesco D'Orazio, soloist and Lee Reynolds, conductor. The monographic album was released by Bis Records and received more than 20 “5-star” reviews from the major specialized magazines in the world, and an ICMA nomination.

About the music

Starting with postmodern experiments in the first period, he after focused on some musical theater forms exploring the possibilities of the voice (melologue) researching various ways in the voice emission with the study of phonemes in many works devoted to the musical theater (Butterfly, Cinque di Cuori, Il Catalogo, Sinforosa, La machine de sons, Comuni-Canti, Les Animaux) along with some influences from his teachers (Azio Corghi and Luciano Berio) about this vocal research.
His output in recent years has focused on large symphonic works for the full orchestra. The Violin Concerto, the Clarinet Concerto, the Piano Concerto, the Recorder Concerto, the Double Concerto for Guitar and Marimba, Drops for harp and string orchestra, Fragile for electric guitar and string orchestra and Dark Clouds for orchestra, represent his full research in further possibilities of the orchestral colors and textures, but also in an organic idea of interconnected and interdependent formal moments and gestures, like a network of neural connections. In the last works, the timbre as color leads to a new idea of "sound-light", researched also with the help of electronics mixed with instrumental sounds (Chaconne, for electric violin and electronics) and thanks to a research of extended techniques also open to the orchestral writing. 
To his interest in astronomy, the goal is to research an abstract "core sound" in a unique and large movement (every work is never organized in separate movements), like eternal cosmic energy of which we are but a small circumscribed point.

The sound of Grzanna Jazz is somewhat a hybrid of classic jazz, pop standards, original compositions, and funky tunes all clearly influenced by Suzanne’s unique and contemporary style.  She has released six CD’s, with a new one coming out this next year. Her music has won rave reviews from both the critics and her fans.  Says the Pasadena Weekly, “Her smoky voice and skillful sax set her apart from many other jazz performers, both those of her own age and beyond.”
Suzanne Grzanna began her jazz career at age five when she studied piano.  She grew up in a small suburb of Milwaukee, WI and flourished in music from the beginning.  Her parents, Don and Maureen Grzanna, are notable musicians who taught her the discipline of the craft.  As a very young girl, I would always see my father performing around the city. I had aspirations of performing since that time. My mother taught me piano lessons and I competed in many piano competitions and won many awards in jazz and classical music. In fifth grade, I started the clarinet and in seventh grade I started playing the saxophone. I was in Band, Jazz Band, and Choir all throughout High School. Ms. Grzanna was also a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus starting at the age of eighteen.  Suzanne attended Wisconsin Lutheran College for a few years and proceeded to graduate from Carroll University with a degree in Music.  College was important for the aspiring musician, and after graduation proceeded to follow her dream of starting her own jazz quartet.
In 1994, Suzanne Grzanna released her first album titiled “The Cat’s Meow.” This put her on the map and gave her the opportunities to perform around the United States. Her video, “The Cat’s Meow,” also got rave reviews on BET Jazz. This introduced her not only to the US, but also to the world. Soon afterward, Ms. Grzanna released her next album titled “Fly Me To The Moon.” This album got the attention of Billboard Magazine, which wrote a fabulous review. The offers of releasing an album overseas came from such countries as Japan, Brazil, and South East Asia to name a few. Not only did Suzanne get attention from record labels, the film community started to take notice. Suzanne was involved in various films with not only her music, but her persona. Carroll University even awarded Suzanne with the Graduate of the Decade Award in 2000. In December of 2003, “My Santa Baby” was released following with “Simply Sunday” in 2006. Suzanne released “Christmas Night” in 2010. Throughout the years she has shown her diversity in music recording of jazz, blues, classical, Christian, rock and contemporary music. Suzanne has won various awards from ASCAP, Shepherd Express, Carroll University, and Wisconsin Area Music Awards. She has also been featured in the 2007 book “Who’s Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment” by the Federation of American Musicians, Singers and Performing Artists. In 2016, Suzanne won Best Jazz Artist and Best Jazz Video from the Indie Music Channel Awards. She also won a Silver Medal in the Global Music Awards. Currently, Suzanne is nominated from the Hollywood Music and Media Awards and is a Semi-Finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest. Her new single Wedding Day was released in July of 2016. Daybreak, Suzanne Grzanna’s new jazz CD is just being released.  Her sizzling saxophone and sultry vocals will leave you spellbound. Check out her new CD! Award winning Singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Gareth is pleased to announce the new release of his CD 1-2-3 ,which features the song Castaway.
He has written, produced and is singing all songs on the album which was released on his 25th birthday- June 1st in 2023.  The Cd was recorded in Sunset Blvd Studios in Nashville, TN and features award winning musicians and engineers.  While other CD's have spotlighted Gareth's Native American Flute music, this new CD features his fantastic vocal abilities.  As critic Rick Moore of Music News Nashville wrote - "He is a rare talent... he puts the music in Music City".

Native American flute virtuoso, Gareth Laffely's "Voices of the Guardians", the follow-up to his highly successful CD entitled, "Sky Before the Storm", which earned him the #2 spot on Billboards New Age charts right behind Enya’s “Dark Sky”, making Gareth the youngest musician to reach #2 at 17 years of age.  He was awarded the prestigious "Rising Star" Award from the Native American Music Awards for his debut CD, “The Journey”. “Voices of the Guardians” is a collaboration with Emmy award winning producer/composer Lance Bendiksen, and features award winning Native American actor Wes Studi.  The project was recorded at George Lucas’s Sky Walker Sound in California with SkyWalker Symphony.  This musical art piece features ancient wisdom from Native American Elders and tribal leaders such as Chief Joseph, Cherokee Beloved Woman Nancy Ward, Chief Seattle and Sitting Bull, among others.  Their words echo from the past - being brought to life by the unmistakable voice of Wes Studi where they weave within the sweeping instrumental compositions of Laffely and Bendiksen.  Gareth’s music is featured on nationally acclaimed NPR radio program Hearts of Space, as well as Music Choice's Soundscapes channel.  His music video’s have been featured on GAC, (Great American Country Network) and also FNX Broadcasting, (First Nations Experience).  Featured in the Feb/March 2018 issue of Cowboys and Indians magazine, as Generation Next - Gareth was praised for inspiring fans and raising awareness of his culture.   Gareth recently composed the soundtrack to the documentary film, “Their Last Ride”, dealing with issues that face both wild and domestic horses.  His music video for the film has been nominated for an EQUUS film Festival award.
