Mile Marker Zero was formed in 2005 when brothers Dave Alley (vocals) and drummer Doug
Alley (drums), alongside childhood friend Mark Focarile (keyboards) and original bassist Tim Rykoski met guitarist John Tuohy at Western Connecticut State University. They released their debut EP, The Haunted in 2006, and began to captivate audiences as they were seen performing alongside the likes of Porcupine Tree, Underoath, Spock’s Beard, and Devil Wears Prada.

Having created a buzz on the Northeastern prog circuit, the band returned to the studio to
record their self-titled, full-length debut Mile Marker Zero in 2009, and were the first-ever unsigned artist to be featured in the popular Harmonix/MTV Games video game series, RockBand.

As time progressed, MMZ continued to make several notable live appearances, including shows alongside Periphery, Scale the Summit, Nothing More, Adrenaline Mob, Fair to Midland, and more. In 2014, the band released the electrifying Young Rust EP, which was lauded as “a must-listen for fans of commercial progressive music” (Metal Insider) and saw the band receive the award for “Best Band (Connecticut)” at the 2016 New England Music Awards.

In 2017, Bassist Jaco Lindito joined the band and produced The Fifth Row, a concept album released in March of 2018. The narrative of the album is focused on the exponential growth of Artificial Intelligence, and its effects on humanity. The lead-off single, “The Architect” was even featured in the acclaimed “NASCAR Heat 4” video game. The Fifth Row has received rave reviews including:

Following the release of The Fifth Row, MMZ appeared as the opener for Riverside at RoSfest 2019 in Sarasota, Florida and later performed at New Jersey Proghouse. As the 2020 COVID pandemic descended, the band pivoted from additional live performances to virtual festivals, including the Uncancelled Music Festival, Prog from Home, and Progstock 2020.  In between concerts, MMZ created the “Hour Zero” podcast, talking with notable guests including Marco Minnemann, Randy McStine, Harry Waters and more.  

As 2021 starts a new chapter in MMZ history, the band released a live album that they recorded during the quarantine entitled, “Live and Confined”, on April 2.

The quality of the recordings will vary since Ian recorded some of the songs on a 4-track, and others on a standard tape recorder.

Inspired by bands such as Tool, Nine Inch Nails and Karnivool, and infusing grooving riffs with orchestral arrangements to round out their sound, the music of Socionic flows from brutal to beautiful as it bends the genres of progressive, metal, rock and ambient to fervently carry a message that moves the mind.  The Los Angeles based quartet further divulges their identity through other mediums, eliciting symbolic artwork, video, and prose to fully express and explore the depths of their creative journey.

Recently wrapping production on their new crowd funded and self produced album “Dividing Horizon”, the band is expanding their live show production and moving to the performance phase to promote the November 12th release.  Their return to stage was marked by a packed house performance at The Glass House in Pomona as main support for Nothing More, and is being followed by a pair of performances at The Viper Room alongside members of TOOL, Kyuss and Fu Manchu to celebrate the new release.

The group has already garnered favorable reactions from the press with Music Connection Magazine rating their debut EP "Identity" in their Top 25 New Music Critiques of the year, citing: "Stellar performances, rich production and an ability to craft multi-level tunes that would improve any sci-fi/horror soundtrack."  In their review of the recent album release show at The Viper Room, Metal Assault stated: “[Socionic] put on a performance that completely floored a packed house and emphatically exceeded the expectations of even their longtime fans in attendance. ...This was the heaviest set I’ve ever witnessed by anyone at the Viper Room, and I have been to a lot of shows here ...An unbelievably supreme performance, one that left the audience stunned and overwhelmed.”
