“And I Am” the first single from the new Jack Caldwell album is out on all streaming platforms today! The album will be released in springtime, and it's FANTASTIC.
This was the first song we worked on, testing the waters to see if we could make a record together. We could...We Did.
Covid hit as we gained momentum, keeping us from being in the same room for quite awhile. We got creative and worked past it. The instrumentation for “And I Am” was created off voice memo recordings he’d send over. Once that was done, I’d send a two track mix for him to lay his vocals on at home. It went from acoustic ditty to an anthemic driving song. 
I built it around a Fleetwood/McVie inspired drum/bass part (snare, floor tom) Benmont Tench-esque piano/organ part, Rickenbacker 12 string, and a Tele for the lead part. I tend to prefer getting a lead part in one or two takes. This was the first take.
I may have subconsciously “borrowed” a part from “The Last DJ”, haha.
Jack’s acoustic is up the middle, unchanged from the song’s original direction, and It still works perfectly.
