After an extended pause for much needed rest and slow reflection, the Patterns of Perception crew is excited to return to our mix series with fresh energy and a stellar new mix from Jasmin, aka softi (@jazz_brown). 

Soulful, breezy and groove-laden, softi's Patterns of Perception 122 shimmers with her kaleidoscopic, minimal sound. Weightless sparks float and flicker in dim light. Time dilates; seasons drift.

A few thoughts from Jasmin:

Hey Jasmin, how’s it going? What's been happening for you lately?
I’m well, I’m currently living between Lisbon and London this summer which has been a dream! Great food, beach sessions and writing music. It’s been a wild 3 months and I’m just getting myself ready for the seasons changing!

What can you tell us about your mix?
For this mix I wanted to mould my love of groovy minimal and psychedelic tones for the moody season ahead, which is usually my signature sound! I have been producing a lot of this recently and some of my unreleased bits are exclusively inside 💜

⁠Is there a track or tracks that are extra special for you?
I’d probably say my own productions are the special to me as it reminds me of how much I have developed as a producer and artist. I love connecting with the tracks and being able to create my own atmospheric world for listeners to get lost in. But one track that I always come back to is "bluep" by Underground City Loop (a producer from Aus). I have been playing this track for years and it has every sonic element you'd want from a track - low end sub groove with dark melodic synths.

We reached out to one of our good pals up in the Great White North to supply us with a special downtempo mix! The manlike JEX OPOLIS is in the house, putting together this killer 90-minute joint, full of late 80's & early 90's downbeat house, ambient trance & post-acid house groovers. You may know the man from his Nu Disco Good Timin' and evil twin Bad Timin' labels, where he amps up the Italo & 90s Progressive vibes with massive kicks for the dancefloor, or his well-known mixes for The Lot Radio NYC. Jex Opolis - Moon Chasing

🍄 Music For Mushrooms is a dedication to spaces of transcendence in nature, in particular to the network of the forest - Mycelium. With this project, artist Ophelia Bakowski explores, through a selection of compositions, field recordings, and live instrumentation, what it might be like to be a mushroom. Sounds collected and arranged for this work have been gathered in the process of foraging, consuming, exuding, and becoming. Tender has been a space to nourish and develop these ideas further over the Autumn months and now, as the season is here, it’s time to imprint our spores 💓

Fog is Marija Rasa’s debut album on Short Span as emer, and her first cut to wax. It follows a single featuring Ugnė Uma for Stroom and a wonderful debut tape for the now cult (I hope!) incubator label Lilerne Tape Club.

It’s for dreamers. Very dub. Soul. Ambient too. A bit of Detroit-like post industrial imagining. You can read it is as a new and different version of a very classic dub technique from the producer in many ways - Marija at the mixing console and effects desk, conjuring a new versioned music through radical restructuring and an instinctive reshaping of space + melody + lyric in studio experimentation.

Tracks are pinned down by thick and enveloping bass while other elements float in and out, fleeting narcotic or hypnagogic notes of fantasy and song form bob in and out of focus. Scant colours and disorienting voice and melody sit suspended, occasionally coalescing and breaking out into moments of radiant beauty and slowly burning manifestations of warmth and presence shooting through the heart and gut.

- Hey Leif, how’s it going? What’s been happening lately?
Hey, I'm good thanks - enjoying spending some time focusing on producing / mixing again after a bit of a break! There are a few things on the horizon including some new material and some radio shows this winter.

- Tell us a bit about this mix - what was your idea or direction behind it?
It was a chance to weave together a few dreamy slow burners around the 100bpm mark I've been really enjoying recently, and feature some fresh bits from Duckett and others along the way.

- ⁠Are there any tracks or moments in the mix that feel extra special or defining to you? 
'Pick a Headline' - one I made together with Duckett will always feel like a special track - it's a few years old now but still brings serenity every time I listen.
