North Mississippi Allstars formed in 1996; the product of a special time for modern Mississippi hill country blues. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Memphis legend Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi legacy while playing and shaking it down in the juke joints with their blues ancestors. R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner and their musical families were at their peak, making classic records and touring the world. Eventually, Luther (guitar, vocals) and Cody (drums, vocals) formed the North Mississippi Allstars and pioneered their own brand of blues-infused rock and roll.

September 3, 2013 the North Mississippi Allstars will release WORLD BOOGIE IS COMING, the seventh studio record for the band recently crowned “Americana music luminaries” by National Public Radio. They produced it themselves at their own Zebra Ranch Studios in Coldwater, MS, aside from a day in the studio with Robert Plant (and his harmonica) at Memphis’ legendary Royal Studios.The Dickinson Brothers did it with the help of long-time friends, Lightnin’ Malcolm, Duwayne and Garry Burnside, Kenny Brown, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Sharde Thomas, Chris Chew, Sid and Steve Selvidge, Plant and others. Blues guitar phenom Eric Gales was born and raised in Memphis, learning to play at age four from older brothers Eugene and Manuel in imitation of their upside-down, left-handed style. Winning his first blues contest at 11, four years later Eric signed to Elektra to issue his 1991 debut LP, recorded with Eugene on bass. Manuel (who previously performed under the alias Little Jimmy King) reunited with his siblings for 1995's Left Hand Brand, credited to the Gales Brothers. A newly matured Gales returned in the new millenium to start his solo career. With Mike Varney and his label Shrapnel Records Eric has found a home among some of the best guitar players in the world. Wink and the Signal started out officially as a “last stop of the night”. Lydia had been practicing for her Masters jury at Duquesne Conservatory, while Barrett had been working on a movie in upstate Pennsylvania; a movie about the viability of a small college town when the students leave after the semester is over. Clearly, both of them were in need of a cocktail.

They proceeded, from literally different parts of the state, to end up in the City of Pittsburgh, at the same bar, the THUNDERBIRD, known for its Underground Railroad roots, hipster mustaches, and women who still knew the pertinence of the leather mini-skirt.

It was Barrett who, of course, was at the bar ordering a drink when he looked to his right. There was Lydia, sitting demurely, fielding questions from three rather overzealous bluegrass musicians with very limited understanding of the words “personal space”, with a look on her face that literally translated to : WE need to talk. The discussion? Music. The beer? Railbender ale. The mood? Boredom from the constant trappings of the mediocre bar gig, the lassez-faire jazz club, the constant “oosh-oosh-oosh” of the techo-transient mood muzak that people pay top dollar for.

Lydia and Barrett wanted to explore more with music; to travel the world studying, interacting, and performing a genre that they would create, known ONLY as AFRO-COUNTRY.

More than just a session drummer, Keith is also an accomplished solo artist and maverick producer . Keith Leblanc was active in the rise of both hip hop and industrial musical genres as they transitioned from underground ideas to commercial industries. His early recordings on drums with The Sugarhill House Band, Tackhead, Nine Inch Nails, Seal, Annie Lennox and a near endless list of production and performance credits put him way ahead of the musical curve.
