After two years concentrated in the making, Cristian Varela -a staple in the Techno Music scene for over 3 decades- is releasing his eagerly anticipated new studio album. 

‘My Way’, that’s how the LP is titled, marks a significant milestone in Varela's career and promises to energize dance floors worldwide, delivering an intense and immersive musical experience.

“A genre-defying visionary”

Prepare for an electrifying journey through the pulsating realms of scifi and Techno. ‘My Way’ aims to become an escape route for anyone. Naturally uplifting at the same time introspective, cinematic and deep as abyss. 

Cristian Varela remains true to his eclecticism, solidly combining the textures of contemporary electronic music with edgy analogue synthesizers, atmospheric pads, chunky drums, industrial patterns, organic layers and of course, the energy of mighty techno sounds his extensive career is so rooted in.

The Spanish Techno-legend (now based in London) attested once, and talking about the relationship between the 'sound' aspects of music and the 'composition', that “there is a great connection between sounds, creativity and production. Ideas sometimes come through modulation or just transforming a sound … suddenly after the metamorphosis, a track comes into my head like inspiration.” That’s how the new album is a dynamic carousel, a twelve track trip meandering between various shades of concepts and distinctive moods. A journey with room for the darkest side of Electro (‘Ultrahuman’), retro-futuristic and relentless Techno (‘Earendel’, ‘Asymmetric’, ‘Helion’) as well as emotionally Ambient music (‘Intron1ka’, ‘WASP103B’) and a jaw-dropping EBM cut fueled with rock-oriented backbeats (‘Yknalb’). 

It is proven once again. Cristian Varela is synonymous with Music, Passion & Respect. Exactly, just as the documentary-film released a few years ago, where it was already exemplified he is one of the most influential and longest-standing figureheads -since the early 1990s- of the Electronic Music Scene worldwide. Also one of the standards of a fireproof format like vinyl. We must keep on the radar his “6-S.I.X.” unique vinyl shows all over the world.

Next up on BPitch is one of Iceland’s most legendary electronic music exports - Exos - unveiling a three-track EP, Cyber City Volume 1. 

With an illustrious career that dates back to the mid-90s and often sees him being praised for his experimental dub techno, Arnvidur Snorrason has in fact worked frequently with faster tempos, as exemplified by his output in latter years. It’s in this speedier lane that he travels on Cyber City Volume 1, sitting comfortably in the faster end of his BPM range for an all gas no brakes trip into the vast unknown. 

Diving straight into the deep end, opening track ‘Open Your Mind’ is a hard hit of unrelenting kick drums, intoxicated upward spirals and skittering percussion, leaving no time for warm-ups. ‘We Are In Control’ follows up swiftly with an equally high-octane dose of face-melting rave stabs that get progressively more insane each time the cavernous kick drum drops back in. Murkier territory awaits on ‘Buzzer’, an after hours mix of low end frequencies and distorted hi-hats to close off accordingly. 

Cyber City Volume 1 finds Exos striking the perfect balance between chaos and composure, teetering between expansive landscapes and molecular sonic detail across three equally strong cuts.

Let´s Go Techno Podcast 097 with Eric Sneo

Now an internationally successful DJ, Eric Sneo started learning to play musical instruments from a young age, after his grandfather introduced him to an accordion at only the age of 4, he went on to experiment with drums after buying a drum kit in his teenage years and started to attend local jazz shows, where he really learned how to improvise. In 1991 he saw Sven Vath playing in Frankfurt, and it was here when he fell in love with what he was listening to, and wanted to know more.

With his unique performances on the E-drums during his DJ sets, Eric swiftly developed into a distinctive and highly sought after international performer with his unforgettable sets. After he presented his unique “Art of Life” show at the Nature One Festival (2009) for the first time, he gained rave reviews throughout an exclusive festival tour of the show in the summer 2010 and 2011. Eric can combine his trademark groovy technoid DJ style with his live performance of a range of acoustic and electronic instruments, including E-Drums, E-accordion, percussion & didgeridoo.

In 2011 he launched his new Mudra Audio label, where he released his critically acclaimed album “Polarity” in March 2012. Supported by international artists like Laurent Garnier, Len Faki, Dubfire, Luciano, Gabriel Ananda and Cari Lekebusch, the album was highly successful, so much so much so, that Umek signed the album track “Shut Up & Dance” as a single for his 1605 label, which was released in August 2012.

With his successful “Move On” EP in 2013, he became a member of Christian Smith’s respected, forward-thinking Tronic family, a move that led to him to his 5th album of his career “Intensity’ which was released on Tronic in 2014. Much acclaimed support lead to a steady stream of hits on Tronic, with his “Move On” and “Metanoia” tracks remixed by Pig&Dan, Paco Osuna and Mendo.

Eric has announced he will be released his next album, which will be his second on Tronic in February 2017 with ‘Sound Traveler’. Featuring 14 original tracks which show Eric’s eagerness for experimentation. Providing full bodied beats and rolling basslines, closing the gap between tech-house and techno.
