A Midsummer Night's Dream - A Midsummer Night's Dance

Hermia, who is in love with Lysander, resilient to her father Egeus' demand that she wed Demetrius, whom he has arranged for her to marry. Helena meanwhile pines unrequitedly for Demetrius. Enraged, Egeus invokes an ancient Athenian law before Duke Theseus, whereby a daughter must marry the suitor chosen by her father, or else face death.

This is music written for theater in 1994.
The play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" was performed at Lillöhus castle during Kristianstaddagarna (Kristianstad, Sweden) in the summer of 1994 by Scenforum.

Shine Over Sea and Shore (Gläns över sjö och strand) was originally a poem by Viktor Rydberg, written in 1891. Some years later the famous Swedish songwriter Alice Tegnér put her music on the text. 

Since then this song has been a natural part of the Swedish Christmas song variety. There are several other melodies written for the text and we have added some parts of Ivar Widén’s version to our production.

The English lyrics is mostly based on Eva Toller’s translation from 2005.
