Si è formata tra La Paz e la capitale tedesca e nel suo lavoro incorpora materiale autobiografico che passa attraverso esercizi di memoria, con l'obiettivo di creare pratiche corporee che pongono la conoscenza delle sue antenate e la sua esperienza di vita personale come base da cui ripensare e trasformare l’esistente. technocumbia2030 è la sua pratica di danza che si ispira al materiale coreografico del concorso televisivo “Sabados Populares”, famoso in Bolivia negli anni ‘90, che come stile combina i movimenti dell'High Energy e dei classici europei approdati in Sudamerica negli anni '80, con i movimenti della cumbia andina. In questo show per s4yri a Fritto.fm l’artista si connette alla dimensione musicale del contest, tra cumbia sureña, amazonica e techno-merengue, in un percorso sonoro che attraversa le Ande e arriva ai Caraibi.

TAPER NOTES:
First official Joanna show since January 16, 2020. Kilby Block Party is a 3-day festival in Salt Lake City, UT. Joanna performed on the “Lake Stage”. Always tricky to get a good outdoor recording, but my crew was front row, VIP section, slightly to right of stage, with good, clear, loud monitors directly in front of us. This is a nice, A-minus capture. You will hear some sniffles throughout the recording, by a sweet and enraptured fan to my left (first JNew show)—these decrease in frequency as the show goes on. Crowd was rowdy but respectful. I did not fix any of the sniffles or crowd noises, but you are welcome to do so and reap if you’d like.

Joanna’s extemporaneous Steve Albini tribute was lovely and emotional, and she wept a bit throughout “Cosmia”. Sapokanikan was imperfect but gorgeous anyway—particularly that ending which is among the most beautiful music Ms. Newsom has ever composed. The new song, No Wonder, is performed here live for just the second time. My highlight for the night. Thanks to the great people surrounding my wife and me at the show—genuinely kind as is so often the case with Joanna Newsom fans.
