Otherworld 2023: Genesis Stage

I created this set in memory of a good friend Josh Grant. My last conversation with Josh was of him asking me to play a set for his birthday, unfortunately he didn’t make it to his birthday. Losing Josh was extremely hard for our friend group as Josh was a bright beaming light to us. He energy was fun, flirty and contagious. It was impossible not to be lit up by him, especially when on the dance floor. The day of his celebration of life was marked by double rainbows, showing us that even tho no longer with us on this plane of existence he was still with us, guiding us, loving us and lighting up our lives in extraordinary ways. Love always and forever my dear friend 🌈🌈

For our first mix of the year, we have Calgary-based Drum & Bass DJ and promoter, Swayze, who truly embodies the collective and cultural spirit of the genre. Representing Sub Chakra, a collective engaged in spreading soundsystem culture, Swayze is an incredibly important cog of Calgary's thriving Drum & Bass scene.

When asked to deliver a mix for Unchained, Swayze dug deep into his influences that originally got him to love the genre.

"This mix was created with a few things in mind for myself, for one keeping it true to the sounds I love and the ones that originally got me into drum & bass. The softer lighter sounds but with those heavy rollers also."

After bouncing around the west coast of BC and  the West Kootenay area he has honed his skills and landed back in Rossland, BC. Having the pleasure to open up for such acts as Stickybuds, theFunkhunters, Featurecast, Wood n 'Soo, Bryx, Neon Steve, Mat the Alien and Skratch Bastid to name a few. Blending genres of Glitch Hop, Ghetto Funk, and Hip Hop are his main forte but is a fan of all genres and can be known to play anything at anytime.
