Ta-iho Chiku was the Japanese name of the bamboo I use. This deeper model is a new flute for us, inspired by the ancient Japanese Koto scale. Music seems to tell a story and in my mind it felt like our Japanese flutemaking bamboo was deciding to leave Japan. It did, and settled in Florida in the 1880's and made me a flutemaker. Felt like the music was it's thinking about going and being willing never to return. But some of our customers are in Japan and the bamboo made the trip back home, a happy ending! I have had the joy of making bamboo flutes for 49 years and have handmade over 150,000 wind instruments. It has been an adventure making flutes in Mexico, Guatemala, Argentina, Brazil, Hawaii, Costa Rica and Fiji, where I got to play for their President. May my music bring you peace and joy.
