Bolting Bits favourites Rhythm Section are continuing to showcase their impeccable A&R skills with the perpetual search for new and raw talent from across the globe. Next up on the docket for the South London imprint headed by Bradley Zero is a four track EP from String Theory, the 21st release on the label. We struggled to unearth any info on the Glaswegian production duo and there may not be any as of yet, considering this is their debut EP. This gives us all the more reason to dive straight into the music.

A four tracker that impeccably nestles itself in among the ranks of Rhythm Section International's already laudable discography, the "Modularity" EP combines a number of different elements and influences to form a polished selection of tunes. The aptly titled release has a heavy use of modular synthesis throughout the tracks, but that's not what makes it stand out. It's the way that it is combined with raw instrumentation and jazzy influences that's really got us singing this mysterious Scottish duo's praises.

Shifting our focus to the premiere, Con Moto does exactly what we just described. A bouncy rhythm and jazzy chords alongside a blooping modular synth line open this one up until the live bass takes centre stage, strutting its stuff along. This call and response takes place a number of times throughout, all while the different instruments try and take the spotlight from the bass, at times managing to find equilibrium all together. From the swelling strings and chords to the surprise cheeky organ and sultry, squelchy synth line, this is one instrument battle we can't stop listening to. Needless to say we're going to be keeping our ear out for String Theory in the future. You can pre-order the Modularity EP from Rhythm Section's Bandcamp.

This was the last hour from a mega 3 hour set at Fox&Badge’s spectacular ‘Underground Masquerade’, held at the Steel Yard, London, where I was among 3 DJs, along with Aidan Doherty and Gus Emmett. I also plan to upload the the first part but especially loved the intensity of this last hour. The view from the behind the decks was simply incredible: immersive performers, circus and fire, and the most beautifully attired crowd, shimmering under the laser beams and masked in anonymity until the big reveal. The whole night was outstanding, enchanting, mysterious and mesmerising; where imaginations and guests ran wild. This is London partying at its very best.

As for this part of the set, the chimes mark midnight and Sinead’s dance of the Masque of the Red Death, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s story in which Prince Prospero hosted a masquerade ball for 1000 nobles in his abbey… I wanted a big, haunting and moody feel I also love vocals and chorals, and so having the opportunity to play these in this cavernous setting felt absolutely immense. 

I’ve been hugely inspired by a number of DJs who play the most stunning music, among them Marius Lenhart, Roy Rosenfeld, Miss Melera, D-Nox, Simon Doty, and Einmusik. I am also forever indebted to Kai for his unwavering support and advice and for sending my the final track upon discovering it several weeks ago, saying it would be perfect for this night. Indeed it was.

We’ll be hosting this experience in the Piranesian vaults of The Steel Yard - buried in the heart of the City beneath Cannon Street Station, right by London’s version of the Canale Grande.

Glance up and you can see vast heritage chains and machinery from its industrial legacy - as well as glimpse the occasional aerialist or furtive reveller, and new cutting-edge lighting & sound systems we’ll be pushing to their very limits. The venue has a cavernous central dancefloor; a long adjacent parlour, acres of chillout space, an outdoor smoking area, 2 vast reasonably-priced bars, its own brewery on site - and endless capacity for intrigue.

We’ll be delivering cinematic soundscapes driven by utterly beautiful melodic techno from the brilliant DJs Aidan Doherty + Gus Emmett (Warm Up) & Alexandra, while we envelop you in undulating landscapes of light and darkness. Prepare for whiffs of Church and dungeon, Kubrick and Malkovich, antiquity and avant-gardism, fashion and fetish, opera and impropriety; a host of interactive characters and spectacular performers, including a dramatic new Masque choreographed and performed by Foxy amidst the chimes of midnight...

The Dress Code is ballroom elegance - divinely attired, as deviant as desired. 
Guests are required to wear a mask at all times, and maintain the utmost anonymity. 
Then suddenly, we'll permit the Grand Reveal.

Some darkened spaces will enable further descents into the unknown; others will require silence and nonverbal communication; still others will enable discreet revelation.
