Born in Alton, Illinois. eldest child of Fayez and Karen. Mom was an art major, dad an accountant. Opposites attract and then raise dysfunctional children. Brother Faris was born just 18 months after me. He played music too. In 1970 our family moved to El Paso. I was just 3. Our names were strange and to the general amusement of other kids I wore big glasses. They made fun of me a lot. I know - boohoo...when I was 9 I saw the Beatles White album in K-Mart. I got my grandmother to buy it for me. It changed my life. When I was 16 I started writing songs. Brother Faris was the only one who believed they were worth a crap. Faris started playing drums. I played guitar. F sold his car for a drum kit then moved to guitar. I moved to bass. Then we both moved to Denton. We hated living in Denton. It was boring and the other bands all had bongo players. We made our self-titled debut in 1999 on an 8-track recorder then quit playing music together. Faris released several solo cds and then quit playing music altogether. I've had 6 full-length solo cds come out since 2004: Polaroid (2004); Beautiful Noise (2005); Snowing In My Heart (2007); Constellation (2009); Hit Parade (2012); Skeleton Closet (2015) plus the A Way To Your Heart E.P. (2004), Live at Pleasantry Lane (2007) Ciphers From Snowing (2008) and the Friends For Life E.P. (2012). 

Kaizer Orchestras creepy little sister, a female Tom Waits, Kurt Weill’s great grandchild, Kate Bush on Piaf- pills or the woman that brings a blush to Stephen King face: the Norwegian singer Guro von Germeten, and her little red accordion, stands out as delightfully burlesque with melodic boldness and French Second World War-ambiance. Her music never lacks passion, nor decadence, and her classically trained «crying cat in the night-voice» brings you every song, as was it her last in life; screaming, whispering or just by sounding extremely beautifully, all with a twist of Balkan beats, Circus jazz and a touch of Film noir. Remember: it is all about having Bad Dreams and Good Nightmares.

Guro von Germeten is one of Norways most original and personal artist. Being something as nontraditional as a singer/songwriter playing the accordion, and creating timeless songs, she gets inspired by old heroes like Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf, as well as more conteporary Tom Waits and Emir Kusturica. Her music has created a lot of attention, and is an intense form of Chansons, spiced with Balkan rhythms and Klezmertunes. And as a live artist she is especially known for her vibrant stage presence, strong lyrics, a heart made of pure passion, and a great, big voice.

The last years have been very eventful for Guro von Germeten; she has performed more than 300 concerts in and outside Norway including festivals as Oslo World Music Festival, Vienna International Accordion Festival, Slottsfjell and By:Larm. She has been touring Germany, Switzerland and Russia, as well as making live performances on TV-shows such as Sommeråpent, Førkveld and twice at the opening the Norwegian elections. She even honoured The Lady herself: Aung San Suui Kyi, when she finally visited Norway to receive her Nobel Peace Prize.  Guro von Germetens first album: Bad Dreams and Good Nightmares was released in October 2010. In January 2013 she will release her second album with her band Schwindelfrei Orchestra.

365 Songs in 365 Days
I have alot of songs - they're all stored on DVDs and CDs as ProTools files in an Ikea cabinet in my pretend music-studio in my flat in downtown Kreuzkoelln, Berlin. A space-clearer said I should make a "best-of" of my hand-made, hand-produced songs and throw the rest away.
